I'm thinking of mounting a scope on the carry handle of my AR. It would be for range use only. Any suggestions on models and mounts? Some pictures would be great. Thanks in advance.

As most of us consider the A2 carry handle TOO HIGH for practical scope mounting (it's tough to get a consistent cheek-weld with the optic up that high) I'd suggest the lowest mount and perhaps a 4X Colt type plinkin scope to negate the aforementioned problem.

Best scope for a carry handle IMHO is the Compact ACOG TA50-2R with the TA50-2 running a close 2nd.

It sits low enough in the handle you don't have to get a cheek piece not does it fudge up the zero trajectory too much.  The sight is extreamly durable, can be used at distance (3X) and for close up (using the BAC feature).  It's also very lightweight.

The only downside is the cost.  Oh well you get what you pay for...

Has anyone used the Leatherwood mount?

Yes...and I am extremely pleased with my Leatherwood mount...I have mounted a Smith & Wesson long range (6-24x42mm). I can hit identical shots at 250 yrds after removing and remounting.

Without a doubt 2x Compact ACOG.

I've only mounted an ACOG TA-31 to my carry handle but I've had it up there for 18 months and it's been great!  Close in and long distance - it's gotten the job done every time.
