Yes I did a search. Didn't find the answer. Just mounted an EOTECH 512 on my RRA A4 FT with a 16'' M4 barrel. Shot at 50 yards- not even on the paper Moved to 25 yards - hit 6 '' low and 6'' to the right. Remounted on upper, same thing Moved it 36 clicks to the left and 30 clicks up A lot better than what it was, but still needs some tweaking. My question is, are all these ajustments a problem for the EOTECH ? Manual states the click adjustment are for minor changes. Do I need to start over with a LaRue base ?

Do you have any irons or BUIS on this gun that has already been sighted in prior to installing the EOTech? When I mounted my EOTech I just adjusted it so the 1 MOA dot sat on my front sight post when looking through the BUIS. I already had my BUIS dialed in for a 50 yard zero and I only had to make a couple of small adjustments to the EOTech once I get it on the range. I don't recall how many clicks it took but it was too many. I don't think using the LaRue would make much difference. |
I shot my Ar with a Eotech for the first time today. I mounted mine directly on the A3 flat top and I kind of had a hard time using it when I looked through the BUIS. It seems like I have to fight the eotech and Iron sights to get every thing to line up because I noticed if I would slightly move my head the eotech floats all over then I would try to switch back to the Irons. ![]() It did seems easier if I did not flip up the BUIS but then I wasn't sure if I was getting proper cheek weld to the stock. I better buy a case of ammo to break myself in on the Eotech. |

3404, You shouldn't try to use both sights at the same time. Sight in the BUIS at 50 yards, then mount the EOTech and use the BUIS to move the 1 MOA dot to the top of the front sight post. Fold your rear BUIS and use the EOTech only and make any needed adjustments. The beauty of the EOTech and Aimpoint is that you don't need to have a perfect cheekweld and sight picture. Just forcus on the target and put the dot on it and press the trigger. The basically parallax free operation of these sights is priceless when fast shooting on the move is required. |
| Following initial installation of my 512, three shot groups would impact roughly 4" right and 4" high from the groups fired using the irons at 25 yds. I purposely didn't adjust the reticule to sit atop the front post before heading to the range. After making this adjustment the Eo and BUIS resulted in identical impacts. It did seem to require more adjustment clicks on the Eo than the instruction booklet describes. Flat top Oly M4 w/ARMS 40L. |
| complete neophyte and every other member is far more knowlegeable than I, however can address this topic. took my bushmaster carbon 15 m4 to the range, by myself , and could not hit the ground. brought my son the next week as a spotter and zeroed in within half an hour. while another member said his was good out of the box, that is not the way to bet. it took many clicks, make that MANY, to get on the paper. once there the final adjustments were cake. with my rifle cowitness is not possible, as this depends on the rifle. the one improvement that will be made is a better trigger. the feeling of power and competence that this combination gives, once sighted, is beyond description. as far as these people with their minute of accuracy at 100 or more yards debates with an ar15 strikes i find unbelievable and absurd. this is not a precision weapon but a assault rifle. the combo of the m4 and eo tech 552 is for personal defence, and seems to me the state of art. |

I just recieved my Eotech 551 today and I mounted it on my flatop and it feels solid. I do have a few questions. Like others have mentioned, if you slightly move your head the Eotech is all over the place, so you guys are saying once sighten in properly, you can fold down your BUIS and only use the Eotech and front sight post? And where the Eotech is aimed it should hit? Even if it is not lined up on the front sight post? Am I understanding this correctly? Thank you everyone. |
The short answer is YES, as long as you can see the entire reticle (65MOA circle with 1MOA dot) . |
The dot does not have to be on the front sight post. The front sight post thing is just an easy way to get your EoTech dialed in when you first install it. Look through your BUIS, once they are zeroed, and adjust the EoTEch until the 1 MOA dot is on the top of the front sight post. Then fold down your BUIS and focus on your target. If you focus on the dot it will appear fuzzy. Put the 1 MOA dot on what you want to hit. The reticle's position in the window does not matter. Then make any final adjustments to the EoTEch as necessary. |
| I don't know if the eotechs come with the windage/elevation adjustments centered, but you can turn the knobs in both directions while counting the number of clicks to see how much adjustment you have left. Might help you figure out if there is a mounting problem. |
As far as the EOTech being "all over the place", and so will your shots. When sighted properly, wherever the dot is, that's were the bullets will hit. You don't need to worry about the front sight post, only if you're looking through the rear BUIS. If you don't have a BUIS, you don't really NEED a front sight post, although IMHO, you should always have a BUIS for any 'other' optics. |

Use the EOTech or the irons -- not both. The EOTech is completely self sufficient and independent of the irons. Cowitnessing an EOTech simply means that the EOTech doesn't block the use of the irons; regardless of whether the dot lines up. If it is dead, you can still see the irons through the window. And the reticle does not move around -- only your point of view does. Try this; set the rifle up on a bench with a bipod or some sand bags. Put the dot on some object downrange. Without touching the rifle, move your head around. The reticle will appear to move relative to the boundaries of the window, but if you pay attention, you'll notice it is rock steady on the point of aim. That's the miracle of holography. |
We've had a problem the raccoons for a while. I've been trying to take them out with my .22 pistol and subsonics. When the EOTech arrived last month, my wife snagged it and put it on the 10/22. To that point I'd shot one with a pellet rifle. Missed once with the pistol and killed a patio chair. And missed another time completely. The chair killer was about 2 inches to the right. So last night my wife is still up and hears the little #$%#$'s in our Koi pond again. She sneaks out there with the 10/22, pop, pop and the local fisheater population drops by two. She said it was no problem to get a good sight picture and was on the second one before it really even had a chance to move. I'm happy about the demise of the little bandits but I fear I will not be hearing the end of jokes about my prowess with guns.
