It comes with "half-size" batteries compared with the Aimpoint. I think they are cheaper and easier to find. But one Aimpoint battery will work in place of the two. I would think one battery would be better than two. One less connection to worry about. |
Thanks, I see you still have the irons on , can you mount it without the rear site and will the front sight post get in the way? If I bought it I was going to mount it with no rear sight and leave the front sight post. You can aim with both eyes open right? Sorry 1 more question, It says this and the aimpoint have a 4MOA dot, I see some that have 1MOA dot. Does this effect accuracy? or is it just how big the dot appears |
It can at longer ranges. The 4moa dot at 300 yards will cover 12inches, the one MOA dot will cover three inches at 300 yards. You can still hit the target with either, but the 1 MOA will be more precise. Well should be anyway, the shooter has a lot to do with it. |

I just got my TACPOINT tonight and would like to share the following observations: 1. Co-witness with an Aimpoint QRP and spacer is in the lower 1/3, unfortunately, my red dot seems a bit to the right of my sight picture. The GG&G cantilever mounted aimpoint I tried at the GG&G shop (I am a Tucsonan) cowitnessed perfectly with my sight picture. I'll know for sure after I sight in the BUIS and put holes in paper. I am tightening the BUIS IAW military FM... any ideas? 2. The sight seems to be exactly like the Aimpoints I have seen. The endcaps are a bit flimsier, but not by much according to my memory. 3. The Blue TACPOINT logo is inprinted (carved) into the scope as well as colored blue. I could not see that clearly in other shots, maybe it is new. There is also a small HAKKO sticker. 4. The service from Bowers ($88 bucks!) tactical was excellent, fastest shipping yet... only beat bravo company by a day though, so props to them both if you are thinking about AR accessories. Thanks AR15.com... my AR is starting to get gnarly! Rich |
I ordered from both Bowers (the TAc1) and Bravo company, M4 hanguards and vert grip. Both Good companiaes, fast too. |

Could you please advise..... I purchased a Rock River Arms Tactical Removable Handle (pic below) which has the rear sight. My hope was too, was to co-witness, as has been discussed with my Hakko Tacpoint Scope. When I mounted my Tacpoint with the ring (cheap) that came with the Tacpoint, the front sight was visible however the rear sight that is on the handle is about 1/4" too low. I need the scope (mount) to drop slighly and I think this is accomplished by using the Aimpoint mounting (and spacer?) ring that has been discussed....This mounting ring should work well with the Tacpoint as it is a knock-off of an Aimpoint. The problem ? I can't seem to get anyone to nail down the part number/link/info etc for the ring itself. Any info on this ? I belive the pic below shows the ring I need. My scope looks identical however due to its ring, it has about a 1/2" gap between the rail bottom of the scope. http://www.aznetspot.com/pics/handle2.jpg |
HTats the standard mount right? the one that came with it. If it is I don't know that you can go any lower with the mount. |
Howdy DPM ... Did you ever get this solved? I'm looking at adding the same setup (RRA tact carry handle + tacpoint 1) to a flatop CAR |

I got my Tacpoint in from Bowers supply on Friday and mounted it on a YHM-9490 1/2" riser . The riser wasn't quite long enough to support the whole bottom of the included Tacpoint mount, but it is very solid and is cheap. I would guess 1/4 of the mount is hanging off the edge of the riser. I am using the standard FSB and the YHM flip-up rear site and it cowitnessed perfectly. Long term I would like one of the quick removal mounts but this works for now. I adjusted the dot to be centered on the tip of the front sight when viewed thru the rear sight and then went out and shot a few rounds and fine tuned it. No problems at all getting it zeroed and I am very pleased with the results, especially vs the cost involved. I had an army issue Aimpoint when I was on deployment in Iraq for 8 months, I honestly don't see much if any difference on the Tacpoint. |
That is the exact mount I use. It works great. Send me an IM on where you are getting it. I want to buy another for a friend. I ordered one off Ebay and it never shipped. Be careful who you order from....

This mount should be waiting for me when I get home from work. It's on the big brown truck. I'll see how it is. Promag from Midway http://www.midwayusa.com/mediasvr.dll/highresimage?saleitemid=150403 edit: installed it and the irons are in the lower 3rd of the scope. Well built and even has a spare battery compartment. We'll see how it is under fire. |

b2cdirectly He was dirt cheap and the mount is very solid. The problem is that they took my payment and did not ship anything. I would use Frisky-Ferret's link to a U.S. based company and pay a little more. One word of caution on these mounts. They are knock off mounts and NOT built for comabt or defensive uses. They are fine for use on range guns though. |

| For those still interested in determining how well the TacPoint stands up to the recoil of a 12ga., I will be putting it through its paces this upcoming weekend with my SST-9200. I will be sure to post my results afterward. |

I read in this thread that a you can get a Tacpoint with either a 1moa or a 4moa dot. I wanted to call Bowers about getting a 1moa dot but I didnt see a phone number on their website. Also I couldnt find a phone number for them in the online yellow pages. Does anybody have a phone number for them? Also where else can I get a 1moa dot Tacpoint or do all the suppliers have them? Thanks. Quarry. |
Hakko does not make a 1 MOA Tacpoint. |
http://www.adoptasniper.org
If you need a 1 MOA dot, you should look at a Bushnell Holosight. It has a 1MOA dot and an intigrated flat top mount. It will not cost that much more than a Tacpoint and a mount together would run. Th 4 MOA dot is more for CQB work than accuracy work. I would love it if they made a 10 MOA dot ...

Range Report - TacPoint 1 mounted on SST-9200 12 Gauge Shotgun: My TacPoint 1 arrived Thursday. I opened it up and the package included the scope, two flip up covers, one low mount ring, two installed batteries, a set of two spare batteries as well as a set of instructions and an allen wrench for tightening the mounting screws. Mounting was pretty straight forward. However, the included low mount ring restricts the positioning of the scope in the ring since the two halves bolt together at top dead center. I would highly reccomend a different mount if you plan on using the TacPoint. That said, I got it mounted up and headed for the range. Upon arriving at the range, I ran out my sight in target to 25 yards ( the maximum distance of the indoor range ) and began zeroing the sight. Zeroing proved extremely simple, the elevation and windage knobs have clearly audible click increments of 1/2" at 100 yards. It took 3 groups of 3 to get it zeroed in, and a 4th group to insure I had it zeroed. I used Winchester SuperX 3" slugs. Between groups I checked both the mount and scope to insure nothing had shot loose, which to my surprise nothing had. Once zeroed, I began cycling more slugs. I proceeded to shoot five round groups until I had gone through the 50 rounds I had brought with me. The TacPoint held up well and never lost zero. I plan on hitting the range again today. If I encouter any problems I will be sure to post it here. |

FWIW - I think my Tacpoint might be eating batteries, but I hadn't gotten new batteries for it yet. So tonight, I measured the current draw on he various brightness settings. With the sight turned off, it actually did show no current draw, so it might be just bad batteries (taken out of toys previously). The current draw is 0.4/1.0/2.6/4.9/16.5mA for switch position (lowest) 1/2/3/4/5 (brightest) The Energizer battery page shows the capacity of the 357 silver oxide battery to be 150mAh, which would mean the maximum runtime of the sight to be approximately 375/150/57.7/30.6/9.1 hours. This is assuming a linear discharge rate, which is unrealistic. Strangely enough, a user earlier in the thread has reported having the Tacpoint on for DAYS at a time with the dot still on on the brightest setting. Either mine is drawing too much current at the highest setting, or the current draw slows down significantly as the battery voltage drops. The sight came from Nightvisionweb.com and is the non-blue ring version FWIW. So far so good - it's on my Bulgy AK-74 and I've got no complaints so far. |

Wrong. I don't own either one. I have read about both extensively. What I see are Tacpoint defenders shrilly defending that product by making claims that are ridiculous. I don't need to try both to know which one is better. I have been through that with the cheapo knockoff of the Colt 3X20 scope made by Leapers. Same deal. Costs a lot less. Almost works as well. Key word being ALMOST. The reticle on the Leapers sucks compared to the Colt model, and the Leapers sometimes takes a crap for no good reason. Good enough for the once a month plinker, but not for serious business use. What is irritating some folks is the asshats that respond to threads posted by uninformed LEO or military personel wanting to know about a product by telling them that Tacpoint scopes are the equal of Aimpoints. Recomending a fairly new product with no real track record other than the fact that it is cheap is bad form. It reflects poorly on this site and could cost some army grunt a lot more than the three hundred bucks he saved. So, there you have it. Another uninformed opinionated post by someone with no experience. Fits right in with most of the posts in this thread. |

A couple of personal observations: A Tacpoint is NOT an Aimpoint. Even if it were equal in all other respects, just based on battery consumption (a critical aspect of a battlefield optic), it would not stand muster. In no way would I recommend it for someone going into battle or even a LEO. However: It is apparently a good, reasonably priced red-dot optic. What I see hapen all the time is owners of expensive sights denigrate anyone who inquires about cheaper optics. There's one thread I remember clear as day where the poster specifically mentioned he wanted a cheap optic for a plinking gun. Nevertheless, there were a number of responses that said "Buy an Aimpoint", "Buy an ACOG" and the like. I suspect that there's a certain amount of "showing off" involved; the respondents just want to broadcast to the world that they own superior optics. Not everyone *needs* an expensive optic based on their specific application. |
