I got my Sightmark and Pro Mag mount from Talon Arms today and my first impressions are pretty much what i expected, decent overall.
It doesnt seem cheaply made, but anyone who says its as good as an Aimpoint must be smoking some good stuff, or is truly inexperienced w/ them. The ONLY difference I have found so far is a 'warranty' which evidently justifies at least a 300% markup in price (likely more because they surely buy in bulk). Anyone can buy good clones for $35.00 each straight from China ... the only difference is a warranty. If they take a dump then they take a dump. What does that say for RELIABILITY of the unit regardless of the warranty? All that tells me is that the company can replace a great percentage of the sold units anywhere from 2-3 times or more before they start to lose money. My point being ... if a Chinese clone takes a dump after spending $35.00 would you buy another? ? ? Not likely unless you’re a paint-baller. If one purchased a Sightmark and it takes a dump would you claim your 'warranty'? Of course you would because you spent over $100.00 Let’s get to the brass tacks … are they just typical Aimpoint clones that are purchased in bulk, private labeled, and sold at appox a 300% markup (justified by a warranty)? 99.9% likely. I was in the market for a new red dot for a few new weapons and even though I already own a couple clones I wanted something MUCH more reliable than a clone, but still am not willing to bust out $400 -$500. I went with the Vortex StrikeFire and paid $130.00 and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Their battery life is 2,000 hrs (that’s 83.3 days consecutive). It has a red dot or a green dot … whatever you feel like using at any given time. It comes with a 2x magnifier and a high mount or a low mount. It has been tested with 1,000 rnds of .375 H&H Magnum, waterproof, and shock-proof. Couldn’t be happier and purchased 2 more. But now Im a proud owner of a Tijicon ACOG TA338R and there is a world of difference there. Im considering buying a mount for my AK but for that I am going to buy the Aimpoint T1. Sightmarks are OK. Dont let the high end nazi's tell you otherwise. |
I used to think that people who bought clones were poser-wannabees who's ARs probably don't even say Colt on the side ( ).
But recently I have discovered 2 reasons to own one. #1 I just bought a Colt (Walther) M4 in .22. It's a great rifle for training and fun. I am trying to set it up like my M4, and it seems a waste to put a real Aimpoint on it. "Waste" meaning that I am not made of as much money as I want to be. So, I am looking for a fake Aimpoint for this one. #2 I have an Aimpoint on my M4 and have been considering trying a magnifier. I plan to buy a fake one and put it on my .22 to see if I like the concept. Who, that's reliable, sell a magnifier? I've seen them on eBay, but not sure of which Chinaman is reliable. So, color me a poser-wannabee. You'd think that since these things are made in China, they would sell them at Wal-Mart.

ML That is the Walther PS22 designed for their G22 rifle. As the original host rifle was a .22 caliber, I don't know if it was designed to handle heavier recoil. |

Contact Marsall at Primary Arms (www.primaryarms.com) if you are looking for a decent magnifier (3x or 5x) at an affordable price. His stuff is made in CHINA, but the quality is as good as any of my GOVT gear (COMP M3s / M4s). I am using one of his COMP M3 w/magnifier clones on my personal rifle; the rifle is a very close replica of one of the M4s I used last. I have gone through several VERY hard training sessions with his optics and I simply can't break his product. |

Just curious if anyone knows if there are still any night vision compatible Aimpoint knockoffs available for purchase anywhere? I contacted ANVS about their ARS-6525 night vision compatible Aimpoint knockoff but was informed that they are no longer being produced and no longer available.
So I'm wondering if I have any other options here for a night time plinker or if I'm going to be stuck paying a heck of a lot more than I want to for a real Aimpoint CompM2? |

Last weekend I tried to zero an aimpoint clone my ex wife had bought for me a few years ago, I recently found it in a box of other crap. I put fresh batteries in it and went to the range. Fucker would not zero, was shooting almost 12" hight at 25 yards, it would not lower even with the adjustment maxed all the way down. Between that and the built in lens covers falling apart I took it back off and put it back in the junk box

A buddy of mine had purchased a Sightmark a while back and gave it to me last week. He never used it and it had no mount. I mated it with an old ARMS M68 mount I had in my parts box and put it on my dedicated 22LR upper. I had to order a full spacer for the mount to co witness so I was out a total of $10.00. Shot about 400+ rounds yesterday and it held up just fine. It did not go off zero. Best $10.00 I ever spent.

| Ok I just got my sightmark in, and I don't like the mount, I'll be getting another one for sure. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if I'll be getting an aimpoint or not, but I'd like it to last as long as possible. What's this I hear about loctite on some of the screws? I know I've read people doing this on some cheaper scopes, but not sure about the sightmark. If anybody has any insight on how to get the most mileage out of these I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry I don't have time to read the 30 something pages on here haha |

I've had one for about a year (on a promag cantilever mount), only put maybe 300 round thru my AR with it, but its held zero fine. I don't throw my rifles down driveways or get in a weekly firefights with terrorists so my weapons abuse would be classified as light. I think I'm at the stage a lot of the under 30 year old gun people are, where I'd rather spend my available money fleshing out my gun collection with more guns, and purchase cheaper non-mil spec optics for the time being, then later on once I'm happy with my collection, then start spending the bucks on the more expensive upgrades. |

i just wanted to ask everyone how the sight has been holding up. I've had mine 5 months now and its still going strong. holds zero with no issue. i have it co-witnessed on a promag mount.
my complaint is that the flip up rubber caps suck (pins fall out) and the rubber retaining strap that holds the adjustment knob covers and the battery cover stretches out pretty bad and doesnt return to shape. its like crappy rubber. has anyone gotten one of these wet? how does it hold up to shock or water? |

I'm kinda disheartened to read that story. mine has held up fairly good so far, but im a bit worried its gonna bite the dust with any real usage. maybe I should move to a vortex, or save some pennies and buy an aimpoint. i really want something that will let me use a magnifier, and will still let me use the irons and cowitness as well. |

Bumping a really only thread. I have one of these (Tacpoint Blue Ring) I bought before I knew what arfcom was. I found it a couple days ago in a box of older take off gun parts and it’s still in really great shape. Turned the knobs and it turned on and worked fine. It was funny re reading the original post. 17 years later aimpoints really haven’t gone up much in price. You can still get a nice quality aimpoint pro in that near $400 range. |
