![]() This kind of stuff seriously pisses me off. It is one thing to buy a clone like a Sightmark, Tacpoint or even a toy Airsoft clone, but to buy a counterfeit sight that actually says "Aimpoint" on the side of it is going too freaking far.

You can send the poster to me and the optic to him I think it might be time to take the ol' blue ring out and mount it up on something. Been on a shotgun kick as of late, perhaps a little 12ga abuse is in order if I can find a mount for the 500. I should also get some pics of the thing back up here. Perhaps if I have time this week I can get some taken and up. |
Now you need to take one of the new clones and beat the living snot out of it so we can see what it can take |
![]() I didn't say I wouldn't sneak both past her, just figured a little OPSEC might be in order. |
The answer is: "Glock G19 and a CompTac CTAC".
Please stop asking the same silly question.

FYI: The cantilever mount that comes with these are crap. As Talon Arms has stated, get a GOOD mount and these things should do the job well enough for what most folks here do. Get a REAL aimpoint and solid mount (GG&G is what I have on order now) for that one gun that you know you will go to when the SHTF. I now know the difference... after several $$$ lost on return shipping and restocking fees on stuff.

I like many others on here can not justify or really afford an Aimpoint. In reality I am too old and fat for the military, the sherifs office sure wouldn't want me so my AR is basicly a range gun. Knowing my place I have spent my money on my Every Day Carry Glock 19 and my Home Defense Mossy 590 A1. I need a sight / optic for my AR so I am on here researching the AimPoint Clones. I would like to buy the Sightmark Red Dot (99.00) from Talon Arms but they have an 8 moa dot and that is a bit more than I would like. I see that 1337 tactical has a clone (75.00) that gets good reviews and it has a 5 moa dot. I also found a Japanese made (all black older model) Tacpoint with a real Aimppoint QRP mount for 125.00 After all the jabber my question is about the 8moa dot and has anyone tried to do any 100 yard +/- shooting with them. |

Does anyone know if this clone is of similar quality to the Tacpoint/SightMark model? I posted about it seperately and just got opinions that it was junk. I'm not asking about price/cost justification, just is it a similar model just 'branded' differently? I just noticed they raised the price $10.00 from last week.. FWIW Guntec Red Flex sight TacticalGears Thanks |
|
I have not seen that model before. I ened up and went with the SightMark brand from Talon Arms. Great guy to deal with and he had some good info on this particular optic when I ordered it. I have it in hand and ready to install. Feels pretty well built and there are no signs of crappy workmanship. Of course how it does on the gun is the important part. I will report back. |
|
Ive put about 500 rnds through my sightmark on my AR without any trouble once the thing was sighted in. But if you remove the optic for cleaning and such you have to re-sight it in. Im going to go with a real aimpoint in the future and put this sightmark on my ak. |
I don't know about "units buying these as a substitute", but the NSN number appears to be NSN/Mfr Part #: ARS-6525 You can see it listed on page 2 here. 4L X 1W (IN), Night Vision Compatible Red Dot Weapon Sight, 4 MOA Dot, 10 position brightness settings, 6-day settings, 4-night settings, comes with flip up covers, weapon mount, batteries. One-year warranty. Made in USA. I wonder if these really are made in the USA |

Sorry if this has been asked. I am thinking about getting this aimpoint clone: Sightmark Has anyone shot with this thing out at 200 yard plus and if so does the 5 moa dot appear to be too big, cover to much target. Also I have a clone aimpoint 3x mag. with the twist-off mount. Will the sightmark line up with my aimpoint clone mag., or which mount do I need to make this happen. Maybe this mount? Thanks |
|
they've also got the non NV version here So to appear on the GSA's list does it have to pass any particular testing or approval process that would speak to it's quality ? |
NOT a Tacpoint. It's made by Advanced Night Vision Systems, Inc. Here's thier product page: ARS-6525 Red Dot |

Take a closer look at the link posted by txleapd (which started this line of discussion): ANVS? Tacpoint? |

I just found this site called scopeandlaser.com and I am tempted to get one of these. They say that they have tested them with over 1,000 rounds. $35.00 Clone With 4 MOA Red Dot ... From China Beats paying over twice that elsewhere 'for a clone'. |
which raises a couple of questions; distributers puff piece or actually true as far as improved specs ? and why did they call it by the same name as the Hakko version ? Is it any good for those of us who don't spend so much time jumping from black helicoptors ? |
Was it 1,000 airsoft rounds? |

Is this Sightmark constructed any different that the other clones shown on this link? How to recognize a fake Aimpoint If so, can anyone show some photos? |
|
My new Sightmark Aimpoint clone started to flash under recoil during a 22LR Tactical Match I attended yesterday. I shot less than 100 rounds a couple of weeks before the match without a problem. On the third stage of the match the dot would flash brighter under recoil. This is using a Tactical Solutions 22LR 16" dedicated upper and a ProMag cantilever scope mount. I also noticed during the match that when I turn on the sight I would sometimes get a dot, but most of the time I had a diagonal line or five dots that didn't converge. My opinion of the sight is don't buy it. |
Very strange. Did you register for the warranty? Mine's been working great and still holds zero after a few hundred .223 rounds in my AR. I wonder how many lemons there are for this otherwise good value sight. |
I bought mine in Feb of 08. Ive shot about 800 round with mine. No troubles and with the same set of batteries. Im possibly looking at upgrading to a EOTECH with NV capability soon. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM. It will soon go on the EE. |
|
Anyone know if the Sightmark is constructed differently than what is shown on this link? How To Recognize A Fake Aimpoint Surely there has to be some difference right? Considering the SIGHTMARK is being held above the rest for some reason. Is there any difference? |
Sightmark will repair or replace as long as you bought it new. Try this quick fix. Remove your batteries and stretch the spring out just a bit. Replace batteries with a single 1/3N www.talonarms.com/talonarms/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43&products_id=432 |
Of course it is. That sight is a cheap counterfeit with no warranty and the Sightmark is distributed by Yukon/ Landmark Outdoors with a lifetime warranty. The Sightmark is better than that and a real Aimpoint is better than a Sightmark. You will never escape the truth: You get what you pay for! |
With MUCH investigating I have not heard of a single difference in the manufacturing or construction of a Chinese clone and the Sightmark. One thing I have heard of is the same problems that are eventually found with such clones/Sightmarks. I'm not a 'clone basher' ... I own 2 Aimpoint clones which were purchased straight from China. I am merely trying to find out what the difference is between the Sightmark and a Chinese Aimpoint clone. The ONLY difference I have found so far is a 'warranty' which evidently justifies at least a 300% markup in price (likely more because they surely buy in bulk). Anyone can buy good clones for $35.00 each straight from China ... the only difference is a warranty. If they take a dump then they take a dump. What does that say for RELIABILITY of the unit regardless of the warranty? All that tells me is that the company can replace a great percentage of the sold units anywhere from 2-3 times or more before they start to lose money. My point being ... if a Chinese clone takes a dump after spending $35.00 would you buy another? ? ? Not likely unless you’re a paint-baller. If one purchased a Sightmark and it takes a dump would you claim your 'warranty'? Of course you would because you spent over $100.00 Let’s get to the brass tacks … are they just typical Aimpoint clones that are purchased in bulk, private labeled, and sold at appox a 300% markup (justified by a warranty)? 99.9% likely. I was in the market for a new red dot for a few new weapons and even though I already own a couple clones I wanted something MUCH more reliable than a clone, but still am not willing to bust out $400 -$500. I went with the Vortex StrikeFire and paid $130.00 and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Their battery life is 2,000 hrs (that’s 83.3 days consecutive). It has a red dot or a green dot … whatever you feel like using at any given time. It comes with a 2x magnifier and a high mount or a low mount. It has been tested with 1,000 rnds of .375 H&H Magnum, waterproof, and shock-proof. Couldn’t be happier and purchased 2 more. All 3 have been consistent in every way. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
| I've had an Aimpoint clone for 3 Years on 4 different rifles. Maybe mine is different but it has work flawlessly for all this time. As far as US supplied gear I'm all for buying USA but not for 4 to 5 times price. I'm not going into combat again but I took it to Gunsight for the assualt rifle class and several people made fun of it, but during class one Aimpoint went south then an Acog followed. nobody said anything about my clone after that and I'm still using it with the origanal batteries. Please no flames this is just a statement of facts. |
| What mount would fit the sight mark that would level with the LaRue pivot mount except the LaRue mount obviously. I just don't want to pay 140 for a mount when the sight is 80 dollars. When I get back to the states I want a red dot sight for my AR, but the Comp M4 is 700 dollars it's not something I would be able to get right away. This sight mark looks like a good temporary sight. |
|
UPDATE: Shot another 200 rounds today and the front cap came off the spring loaded hinge. It still goes back over the lens, but it is not going to go back on the hinge. However, I did fix the previous problem with the dot flickering in and out.
I'm going to have to change my previous statement and say not to buy one of these. If you want a cheap red dot there are cheaper ones. If you want one that isn't going to break there are more expensive ones. The Sightmark operates in an in between zone where it costs more and still breaks. I will probably send it back in and get it fixed after the holidays. Lame. ––––––––- This thread is old so I will make it new again... My new Sightmark arrived from Talon Arms a few days ago, and my gun finally showed up yesterday, so I got to give it a whirl at the range. Here is a brief review in case anyone is still interested. I mounted it to my free float rail in front of the carry handle on the Promag cantilever mount recommended earlier. I don't have a non-handle rear sight, and this arrangement seemed to work out fairly well. With the cantilever mount you can see the dot floating through the back sight ring, or put your head up slightly and look over the rear sight and just have the dot floating at the tip of the front sight post. It was accurate both ways and the dot stayed where you put it when you moved your head around slightly. Getting it zeroed in was easy. After you unscrew the caps on the windage/elevation adjusters you just use a flathead screwdriver. If you have it cowitnessed with your irons getting it sighted in is a piece of cake. Once I got it zeroed in it stayed zeroed through probably 250 rounds. It got jostled around a bit with no issues. It has a 5 MOA dot but it didn't seem overly large. I was a bit concerned about that. At 50 yards on max brightness it stayed inside the center ring on a pistol silhouette target. However...After about 100 rounds it started randomly changing brightness by itself. I thought the batteries that came with it might have been dying, but then it would return to full brightness for a few more shots. I had a Sightmark branded laser bore sighter with a faulty battery connection, so I think maybe they are just terrible at soldering. I'm going to mess with the spring and see if I can fix it. The dot never disappeared, just went to a different brightness every couple of shots. It seems like it is made fairly solidly other than the battery issues. If you are willing to take a chance or fiddle with it and aren't expecting the reliability of a $700 sight, it is worth the money. The end. |

I called Talon Arms and the guy said it took a 1/3N. I looked at my local Walmart and Meijer and they tell me they have never heard of such batteries. I did a search and found some so may have to look at other stores. http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-29987-Batter-Lithium-Battery/dp/B001D1H8V4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1233110840&sr=8-3 |

Well I can say the 1/3N Battery will not work like the guy from Talon Arms told me. I had no instructions with my Sight Mark so got them off the internet from Sight Mark. In their instructions they say to use a CR 2032 but once again it does not work either so now I will try the L1154.... |

It looks like a bunch of results come up on Google for it. Didn't yours come with batteries? They came included with mine. |

I may have missed it, but i did skim through this.
Does anybody know where you can get the clone magnifier from the US? I won't buy anything i have to have shipped from hongkong or china. I have a real aimpoint, bought it years ago to go overseas. But I can't justify spending that much money on something just to magnify it. so I'm looking into the clones, I could find a couple on ebay, but they're al imported. Anybody? |

| I'm new here and new to the AR. I purchased an A2 model and notice that most of the sights and other accessories appear to be designed for the A3 model. Is anyone familiar with scope mountin on the A2 handle, and can this form of mounting scopes, red dot accessories be as accurate as A3 mounting? |
