Good and cheap may not go together but thats what I'm looking for.My A2 is fun but Iron sights are nice, but I kinda want a red dot to shoot with.Around here, there is Nikon and TruGlo sights. This will be going on top of the carry handle so anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,Tyler

I thinkyou will find that GOOD and CHEAP cannot be used in the same sentence with optics.  FOr what its worth.  I had a OKO sight for less than $200 that worked perfectly.  That;s about as low as I would go

There are a ton of cheap red dots around, but  I have no idea if they are any good. I have seen posts from guys with the BSA ones saying they were okay, but I think that was mostly for "I stuck this on my 10/22 for fun"

TGorsk,

I don't know what your application is, but do yourself a favor: save your pennies and pony up for the Aimpoint. It is not inexpensive, but no other red dot sight is as robust. Period.

I have heard promising things about the new F series EOTechs, but have not had any firsthand experience. Previous models have had a poor track record at Gunsite: at a recent 223 class, two out of four EOTechs went TU by day two. The other two made it through the week but crapped the bed during the 556 course the following week.

YMMV.

Different folks have different ideas of "cheap".  Give us a price range.

Despite what you'll hear frequently from guys who obviously have either more money or less wives than I do, weekend plinking in NO WAY requires that you spend $400 for "the best".

I've got a super-cheap $29 Tasco Pro-Point on my Beretta Storm that has held zero just fine.  It's a bit fuzzy if you close one eye, and I wouldn't trust my life to it, but those steel swingers don't stand a chance just the same.

I've also had excellent results with OKO (very clear, no fuzz) and Hakko (still good stuff, and a bit cheaper too, but heavier "blue" tint lens) but that's getting into the $150 - $200 range.

Anything more than that, and you're getting into "might as well get the best" territory with the Aimpoints and EOTechs of the world.

FWIW, "cheap" and "still good" does happen with the red-dots, but it does NOT translate into magnified optics.  With very few exceptions, you get what you pay for.

The Nikon Monarch was like 185$ and had a mat finish.I will NOT be going into combat BTW.Maybe after I join the military but I'm not even 14 yet(next month).I think I will get it.I'm putting an aimpoint or EOTech on my carbine I will be getting some time in the future.

Thanks,Tyler

14 years old and you have an AR15? Wow I felt lucky to have a .22 at that age. Carry on!

I'd look at the Bushnell holo.  It's almost like an EOTech..
