Hey gang, I noticed that there are a lot of amber reticles available. Does amber have any advantages over the red reticles? |
|
Some complain that the amber can wash out, but I could never get mine to do that. I have had Trijicon BAC scopes with both the red and amber reticles. My conclusion is that it is easier to see the target with the amber but easier to see the reticle with the red. |

It depends upon both the target color and the environment. Out here in the Arizona desert, most of us have found amber reticles to be useless. The god-awful sunlight just disolves amber. And amber doesn't show up worth poop on a tan target in bright light. You need to check with guys who have used both red and amber in terrains similar to where you live/shoot. Luck, SD |
I called Trijicon on this issue. They told me that for non military they only produse what is ordered. If dealers do not order red they won't be produced. I wanted an Compact ACOG 1.6X with the red dot. Ordered it 2/26/04 and it should be delivered in early September. Mike |
EO Tech as you don't have to deal with BAC - its a bit quicker. If you want to know if the compact ACOG in red or amber is faster - the answer is depends on the background. If the background is say green - there is no difference. If the background is the desert in particular shades then the red is quicker as the amber will 'blend' better with the background.
Check out the eye releif on the 3x compact ACOGS - its in the TA31 area. |
