Well guys, I just got my Leupold Rifleman mounted to my new .17HMR, but now I need scope covers, preferably the flip up kind.  Finding them wasn't too difficult, and Butler Creek seemed to be the most popular, but which one will fit my scope?!  There are so many models I was flat out boondoggled!  My scope is a Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40.  If anyone could tell me which model number I need to fit this scope I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks.

Go to Butler Creek's site and download this PDF file (you'll need Adobe's free PDF reader if you don't already have it):

Scope Cover Size Chart

The way I'm reading their chart, it looks like you'll need a 14 for the eyepiece and a 25 for the objective.

Next, you can goto this page and you can get Butler Creek's model #s for these flip-up covers.

I know it's confusing to figure out which covers your optic will take. I've been there myself. Just use the chart and their list of model #s and it will be easy. Once you have that info, you can go to any retailer and buy the ones you need. Hope that helps.

It is somewhat boggling.  I went through two orders before I got the ones that would fit my Elite IR.  My advice:  If it isn't on the chart, bring the scope to a gunstore that stocks these things and find the right covers that way.  Trust me on that advice, from someone who wasted time.

Crap. I downloaded the chart but the text was too small for me to read.  I tried measuring the OD of my objective and occular like the other link said, but the measurements I got were too large, and probably not precise enough with the tape I had.  Does anyone else have a Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40 scope with Butler Creek flip-up scope covers?  If so, which covers did you use?  Matt, are you sure it looks like a 14 and 25?

Thanks again for your help guys.

Jesse, you can zoom in on the PDF doc. Just go to the View menu at the top of your screen when you're viewing the PDF file. Pressing CTRL and + at the same time will also zoom in.

I triple checked the Leupold section of that doc and there's only one listing for a scope that appears to be the same as yours at least as far as the magnification and objective size. It's called a Vari-X II 4-12x40. There's also a 4-12x40 with adjustable objective on the chart but the Rifleman scope you have does not have an adjustable objective.

If it was my scope, I would feel comfortable ordering the #14 and #25 covers. When I ordered covers for my Vari-X II 3.5-10x40, I went through the exact same process I explained to you and I got the right covers the first time. So am I sure? Well, I'm as sure as I can be without having the scope and covers in hand. You could always try contacting Leupold and asking them which flip-ups your scope takes but I don't think it will be necessary.

The manufacturer of my scope isn't even on that size chart.  Nice [:|]

Another option is to call a good seller like SWFA and tell them you want.

Thanks a lot guys.  I think I'll call SWFA just to be sure.  I'll probably be ordering from them anyway.
