Hello all,

I think I have my mind made up on a Aimpoint ML2, but still undecided on a quality mount. Does anyone have pictures/experience/comments on an "offset mount?"  I have seen them before, and I think they're made by Knight.  Do they offset to the right, left, or is it reversible? How much is it canted, and does it make it easier to acquire targets without tilting your head over the stock?  Any info is appreciated...

Offset/cantilever mounts are wonderful things.  They extend the Aimpoint about 2" further forward, but still directly above the center of the rifle, to help you get on target faster.  They also help to clear up your field-of-view a little.  KAC, GG&G, and ARMS all make great products that do this.  If you look at the MSTN forum (Industry section), you'll find pictures of all of them.  I used to have the ARMS #22M68 with the cantilever spacer and it was amazing--I'd highly recommend it.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the info, I had thought that the "offset" would move the sight slightly to the left or right, thanks for clearing that up.  I'm not concerned with co-witnessing, because I won't be using iron sights, only the aimpoint.  I also heard that it is beneficial to mount red dot sights as far forward as possible.  If I would mount an ML2 at the beginning or midpoint of a railed carbine tube, would I still want a spacer/raised platform, or is it better(faster) to keep the sight low?

The Knighs mount is called a "forward offset" mount.  Its sets the Aimpoint forward, and it because it is thicker on the screw side, it is offset to bring the Aimpoint back to the center line of your reciever.

You want it to sit at about the same height as the irons would, or a little bit higher.  If it's mounted too low, you really have to mash your face into the stock to get a good sight picture.  The Aimpoint brand and ARMS mounts need spacers, but the KAC and GG&G models are designed to be mounted right to the receiver, so they already provide the proper height.
