Just curious what optics are used on SPR,s the one I saw in afghanistan had a M3 on it. Im building my SPR and im trying to get as close as posible to having the proper optics without having to spend a $1000 plus. any advice/help will be appreciated.

FREE:

I think the milspec ones specifically call for a Leupold TS30 which is essentially a M3LR 3x9 Illuminated reticle scope......

MSTN has covered this in one of his SPR threads in the EE IIRC.......

He even has a pic of a 100%, or damn close, SPR upper complete with optics. [:P]

I'll see if I can find the link.

[:p]

In the MSTN Industry forum he just posted the spec of each SPR military model.  The older ones were TS30's the newer ones are TS30A2's...

These are both, neither, civilian models....though they are promising to bring them out.

To the gov't?  Probably $4.99....

to us?  Probably $800-$900......[whacko]

Wes would know for sure....at the moment they are unavailable to us without intent to mount on a gov't weapon, which you may be doing -- but not me. [V]

Well his has the mil-dot which is what I want Im going to research it more really I just want a leopuold scope with mildot, eye relife focus and a decent magnification, there is no way I can build an exact SPR due to the unavalibilty of the scope. But there is one thing all the SPR,s have the ops suppressor but the 2 I saw in Afghanistan used the knights suppresor..oh well as long as mine looks cool i'll be happy it willbe a start. Now if my money will get here so I can start the SPR journey!!

Early scopes used the 3.5-10X LR M3 Mildot and later scopes were the TS30.  I believe both had illuminated reticles.

I think I got mine for around $650 give or take, from the EE board.  They pop up for sale from time to time...

I paid $775 for a regular mildot. About a week later I saw an ad for SWFA and they bumped theirs up about $50 more. Then a month or so later I seen the same ad and the price was back down to $775 for the same scope.

Check out the prices at www.premierreticles.com before ordering.  I don't know how they do it, but they have some awesome pricing on Leupolds!

Free, no money saving tip here but when you get some more $$$, I recommend you do what I did.  I got mine from MSTN, then I had them add the ARMS #32 QD mount, and a Pod Lock.  It was a BRM-S as recommended by Wes.  I thought it was going to be too short, but it wasn't.  The pod lock handle is AWESOME, and I love the QD of the #32.

i bought the 3.5 to 15 NXS Nightforce with the 50mm objective this spring. it's overkill on my AR, but it is so sweet. when  last spoke to nightforce, they said they were working on a scope for close quaters. it's good to see nightforce developing new products and to know that the boys that need them are getting them first.
