| I'm considering a Trijicon TA-01...has anyone had experience with this particular scope? I know it doesn't have the fiber-optic, but is that a HUGE disadvantage? Need some pointers! Thanks! |
| I don't have the TA01 but have had a TA01NSN for couple of years. They're similar except for the TA51 flat top adapter and center lit reticle (vs. fully lit reticle) on the NSN The full line lit reticle is nice, but it's a fine cross hair, great for precision shooting, not so good for quick acquisition. Also it has a short eye relief, thankfully mine is mounted on my M4gery and I can adjust the LOP (usually only using the 3rd or 2nd position, 4th being all the way open). If you mount it on a flat top without a BUIS you can position it further to the rear (towards your eyes), but with a backup iron sight the options will be limited. Have you considered a TA11? Much better eye relief, and BAC is a great feature. |

The TA01 series is designed for precision shooting at known distances, and works great for that. It isn't very good at quick shots at fast-moving targets or targets close-in. The BAC-equipped ACOGs solve that problem, and are only slightly less good at precision shooting (the TA01's fine reticle does have an advantage there, but not a huge one). As the military and a lot of civilians are learning, the BAC models are far better for most field use, while the TA01 is great for the range, or, say, for a sniper spotter's scope. -Troy |

Not having the BAC system is IMHO a huge disadvantage unless you plan on mounting the Dr Optic sight in place of the rear backup sight on the TA01NSN or where the backup sight is missing on the TA01. At that point you would have saved money by buying a BAC sight and you have lost speed vs the BAC sight. Then again if you will never ever use the TA01 inside 50 yards it would be an acceptable sight but it is nearly useless inside 50 yards. Id MUCH rather have iron sights inside 50 yards. |
