Well, I lucked out and a friend of mine is going to get me an Eotech at a substantially reduced price.  I settled on the longer 552 model because of the increased battery life, but I have one question:  Will the front of the unit clear the regular handguards?  What about the KAC M5 RAS?  I want to be able to mount the unit as far forward on the RECEIVER as I can.  So, if the unit can't be moved up that much on the receiver I think I'll go with the 551, instead.  THANKS.

Kaos,

You can mount the 552 as far forward on your upper receiver as long as you are not using a M$ double heat shield handguard.

As far as the KAC RAS, you can mount the unit as far forward on your upper as you desire, it will clear the handguard rail, but not if you got panel on the top rail.

Hope this helps.

This is as far as it will go with M4 handguards.  It might go one notch further with standard carbine handguards but I doubt it.

Thanks for the speedy response.  Now I can confirm my choice with my friend.

He's leaning toward the 551, but I like the longer battery life.

After this, I'm gonna work on getting a TA31 or TA11 (Don't know which one yet) and an AIMPOINT M2.

Once again, thanks for the quick reply, gentlemen.

I just got a 552 rev E in and have it mounted on my 11.5" DPMS flat-top upper with M4 handguards.  I will snap some pics of it this evening.  This is my first 552.  I also have a 551 and 501.  The extra length of the battery compartment does take up some space on the rail, but I mounted mine back a little further than Lee as I have no plans to mount BUIS on this upper.
