yeah... time for you all to sway me. :P here's my current rig: http://www.matt-sherman.net/elmo/AR15.jpg With the SIR, and the #40, I'm concerned that installation of an ACOG (probably a T31; not sure on donut or chevron yet) will raise the centerline of the ACOG too high to be 'comfortable' for a nose-charging handle cheek weld, even with the slimmer mounts. (considering ARMS #19S) Thoughts on this matter please? E |

don't be ginger, get tehn darn thing, it will be the best investment you made as far as optic is concern. you should get the TA31a, it is my favorite. the triangle reticle has the sharp tip for precision shooting and a large enough body for the BAc so you can be fast in CQB. Donut is another great choice. I like them both. I am not too up on the Chervon reticle, it is too fine. The ACOG will sit well on the ARMS SIR, especially if you go with the Trijicon flat top mount, it position the ACOG a bit lower then the ARMS #19. Good luck finding a ACOG TA31. |

My error. I've been reading about these so much, I had chevron stuck in my head. I was thinking of the triangle vs the donut. Also, isn't the height difference marginal between the flat top mount and the 19S? (I know, I was the only citing concern for height too...lol ) Yeah, demand is high, with combat in force. But, some units are coming home, so things should stabilize. Right? :P Either way, if I take this plunge, I'm gonna be broke for a long time...... E. |

I tokk the plunge twice, tells you what I think of this sight. between the donut and the Triangle, i have both and I like the triangle. I don't know about the height difference. I mounted a ACOG with #19 on my SIR for awhile and I thought the height was fine. New-ARguy is the man to talk to about the different height, his primary rifle has the same exact setup. a picture of a #19 mounted ACOG on a SIR for your reference. |

I adapt easily to mild changes. And make no mistake, it is a mild change. Put your cheek to the stock and nose to the handle. Now, lift your head just slightly so your jaw is resting on the stock instead of your cheek. Like in the above picture. If that bothers you, it will be too high. If it doesnt, you will love it. Personally, I didnt even notice the difference and would not change it for anything out there. I feel like this, getting used to a small lift of your head is a small price to pay in order to get the advantages that set up offers. |

I have the same setup on mine with a TA11 and for me its great forclose shooting given my weaking eyes. Ergo, I am giving a lot of thought to 2 scopes, a Elcan Hi Mag (6X) and the new ACOG TA55 (5.5x) Which of these would you guys recommend. I only wish to have a easier time targeting objects up to 200 yards or so, any further and I go with the AR10 or a bolt gun. The donut is great for me, kinda like a M2 that doesn't need batteries but I need more magnification. Is there anything else out there I should look at?? Thanks for your insights. Mark |

Thanks for the informative replies, all. I'm sitting on the fence still.... given current stock depleted situations, no desire to take weapons/equipment away from our fighting men and women who need it more than I, (even if they are starting to return home in some sense, thank god) and the really painful burden of dropping another 600 or so bucks AFTER I sell my aimpoint M2 and Arms mount... I think I might sit on this for a bit, and see what my brain comes up with in a week or three.... If it does happen, it will be a TA31, donut, with ARMS19s right over my SIR. Thanks again guys... I'll post up if my rifle gets new eyes.... E. |
| What is your back ground in rifle shooting? If you are like me and used to bolt actions with solid cheek welds the rail + 19 + ACOG will be too high as you cant just rest your cheek on the stock and see down the centerline of the scope. You will lift your cheek off the scope and use a jaw/chin weld. New-arguy does not use the 19S because the ARMS rail from his SIR already sets the optic so high. I REALLY wanted to go with a SIR but just could not tolerate the lack of cheek weld so I am going FF RAS. If its not a big deal the SIR is an excellent choice. The slim line SIR does not change the height over bore at all. ALL SIRs are the same height. |
| I actually do have a 19S mount on my TA31/SIR gun. I actually bought the 19S to use with the TAO1nsn/RAS II gun but didnt like the way it looked in front of the Knights 600M or GG&G MAD sight. So I put it on the TA31.SIR gun to see what it was like. And I like it! If all things in the world were perfect, I would mount the optic closer to the bore. But they arent and I like the throw lever mount on the optic. The scope comes on and off more than most people's and I trust that mount more than the thumb screws. The height doesnt bother me at all while shooting and being so used to fast paced heads up type shooting with dot optics makes using the ACOG on this mount a snap for me. |

Just went through the same dilemma myself. For me it was a toss up between the TA11 or the TA31. In the end I eventually chose the TA31 because it was: - less expensive than the TA11 - better magnification than the TA11 - smaller size than the TA11 Now if that damn UPS truck would just hurry up! It should be here today or tomorrow from SWFA. |

SMGLee, I was hoping you could comment on the following remarks. Posted by XM777... I found that the triangle was dimmer and seemed more of a pink than a red. I also found that the triangle was a lot harder to acquire when snap shooting in that I had to consciously search the FOV for it. I am really trying to decide which reticle to go with, and prior to XM777's comments, I was dead set on the triangle. Seeing as you prefer the triangle over the "DoD", I was hoping you could add some detail about your preference. Thanks. |

I have bot the Donut and the Triangle. As far as quick target acquisition, Donut is faster, but Donut does not lend to precision at distance. I like the Triangle, it is big enough for fast CQB action, and it has a nice sharp tip for precision shot at distance. I would highly recommand the Triangle. triangle is just a better combo. if your range does not exceed 400 yards, you I think triangle is more then enough to fill your job. The ornage on my triangle was never pink in color, it is bright orange. Hope this helps. |
