Hey y'all. I want to buy a conventional tube scope to put on my Bushy 20" to get into long range shooting. We have a 600 yd range at my gun club. I would like to stay in the $300 range. I was looking at Weaver Grand Slam, Burris Fullfield II, and a few Sightron scopes. I'd like to hear pros and cons from anyone with experience with these scopes. Any suggestions of other makes and models would be appreciated also. What magnification should I be looking at for a 600 yd range? I've been checking on 3.5x10-50mm models. Also should I get a 30mm tube vs a 1" tube? Does the 300mm tube allow for more adjustment range on windage and elevation? Thanks in advance for any help. Shabo |
| a Leupold 3.5x10 VariX-III is about 400.00. i think they are worth the extra money. you owe it to yourself to buy good glass if you want to shoot at extended distances. inside of 300 yds just about anything will do but quality becomes important at long range. the slightest movement in the internals of a scope will have a great effect at 600 yds. |

My list of failed scopes: Weaver 1 of 1 Junk won't shoot a square. Cheap Asian scopes. Burris 2 of 3 Burris does have great customer service but their scopes suck. Both of them had reticle problems. One rotated on a .223 bolt gun and the other one came apart on my RWS air rifle. It was their air rifle scope. Leupold 0 of 2 Love my Mark IV and 3.5-10 Tactical. Buy Leupold. Last year when I was looking at a scope for my .22-250, I was thinking Leupold, but really couldn't afford it. The good folks at SWFA recommended a Weaver Grand Slam...I ended up getting the 6x20 one. I've been very happy with it, to say the least. For the money, I don't think you can beat it. As for SWFA, I really respected the guy for selling me a product that was significantly less than what I was going to spend originally...it's refreshing to find people who are more interested in a happy customer than in selling the most expensive thing they can. |

Thanks for the input guys. I have been reading a lot posts on Shooters.com about scopes. Most of these guys are hunters, not many AR posts, and have quite a bit to say about scopes. From the posts I have read Leupold seems to be hands down the favorite and most recommended. I have read a good number of positive posts on the Sightron scopes. A couple of them said they were die hard Leupold fans till they got a Sightron on their rifle. Sightron has a patented tracking system that looks to me to be a quantum leap over the others in that category. These guys say that the optics are clear and bright and rugged. Lifetime no questions asked warranty. Sounds interesting to me. I'm gonna try and find someone around here that sells them and go take a look see for myself. Shabo |

>>I have read a good number of positive posts on the Sightron scopes<< Thanks for the heads-up. I'd never heard of them before, but ordered a catalog from their website. Looks interesting! I also notice they're shown as "coming soon" on the SWFA/Riflescopes.com website, so perhaps there's something to them. ===RUT=== |
