With the RAS II the "hump" takes up some of the rails on the front of the flat top. Is there room left behind it for me to mount my TA-11 on my #19 till I can afford to get the #19S and a #40 BUIS? I want to set my rifle up ths way but would like to have it operational with the TA-11 till I get enough money to get the correct mount and BUIS. Thanks. |

Even the #19S and TA11 isn't a great combination since the TA11 is 2" longer than the TA31 and the objective doesn't look like it will fit over the hump. That means the eyepiece of the TA11 will be at least 2" behind the eyepiece of the TA31 in a #19S - so you pretty much either forfeit the major advantage of the TA11 (more eye relief) or you shoot with your cheek on the last 2" of stock. I don't think the RASII, TA11 and any of the #19 mounts are going to be a very good combination. You'd need to either lose the RASII (FF-RAS maybe?) or the TA11 (replace with TA31) to make that combo effective. |

OK, I measured it and with the #19S and the TA11 (assuming TA11 is mounted far back in the #19S) you'll have exactly three ribs on a 1913 rail with an ARMS #40 or KAC 300m sight mounted. Objective of the TA11 will fit over the hump assuming you mount the TA11 in the rearmost position on the #19S and mount the #19s flush with the notch in the ARMS #40. You'll still lose the main advantage of the TA11 (eye relief). I don't have a plain #19 for comparison; but I am sure a BUIS is out of the question and I imagine that a #19 is probably not a viable option with the RAS II. |

THE #19-ACOG, THE ORIGINAL VERSION, WILL NOT WORK WITH THE RAS II. THE #19-S, THE NEW, SHORTER VERSION, IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE RAS II. IMO, EYE RELIEF IS ONLY AN ISSUE IF: 1. YOU DO NOT GET A FULL FIELD OF VIEW. 2. YOU THINK THE RECOIL WILL CAUSE THE SCOPE TO SMACK YOU IN THE SNOT LOCKER. NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE 5.56MM. WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |
| I would go with the FF RAS over the SIR if you use the TA11 because although it may be a pain in the ass to have the FF RAS installed it will still cost less for the FF RAS and install than the SIR with self install and you will not have the TA11 mounted up so high as you would with the SIR. Also the 19S will mount the TA11 even higher so to counter that you will use a different mount and lose the quick detach capability. |

SIR will add 0.25" height to whatever your current optics setup is on the flattop. I'm running the TA11 in a #19s on a flattop right now and I find it just a tad low for my tastes but I've got kind of accustomed to jaw-weld over the years. If I do assume a textbook perfect cheek weld, the TA11 is at perfect height on the bare flattop. |

I let a guy shoot my TA31/19S/SIR combo the other day. He was afriad it was going to be too high for him to really like it. Especially since he saw the hright difference between my sey up and another set up with a TA31 mounted to a #19ACOG direct to the flat top. There is a noticable amount more clearance between the rear lens and the #40 stowed below it. He tried mine and fell in love. He said it came up so easily and the reticle just appeared in front of his eye. Again, yeah, the ACOG/SIR combo mounts the optic slightly higher, and the 19S mount puts it up a hair over that. But I never even noticed it and it certainly never bothered me. So far, no one else who has shot my gun (which includes a lot of people) has ever felt it was uncomfortable. And most of these people are folks who HAVE shot with a full size ACOG mounted to a carry handle. While they have commented on how they thought the ACOG on the carry handle was too high, they enjoyed the ACOG/19S/SIR combo. I'd only be weary of the height difference if you know yourself to be ultra sensitive to slight changes. Otherwise, pick the gear you want and will enhance your rifle the way you want, shoot it and deal with it. Dealing with a slightly higher cheek weld is a very small price to pay in contrast to the advantages this set up offers over almost anything else I could have done. |

The hight of the optic is not an issue. I have been running my TA-11 on my A2 upper for years. I like my sights high. It allows me to keep my head up and gives me clearence for a gas mask. I have trained to do head shots from the 3 in uneder 2 sec. from a low ready with it on the A2. Hold over is around 5 inches. I like the looks of the RAS II over the SIR but want more versitiliy than what the RAS II will give. I wish KAC would make an RAS II that has a full lenght rail over the upper like the SIR. That would do everything I want and have the look I want. I have checked out the FF RAS and liked it. If I wasn't so in love with the 14.5 inch barrels with a Vortex pinned on the front I would go that route. I do not want to end up with a set up that is that difficult to change out if need be. Thanks to all who helped on this one. |
