can the aperture on the #40 be removed and then replaced with the trijicon aperture?

Sure it can, no problems there. However, for the most part, general consensus is that the rear trijicon tritium sight is sort of useless. The two very small tritium dots are far too close to your eye to be visible at all. I had a pair and felt like I wasted my money getting the rear. Most folks, myself included, usually just suggest getting the front sight.
