| What is the best zero for a carry handle mounted red dot for use at 5-50 yards? |
|
If you zero your rifle at 93 feet your going to be 1.5 inches low at the muzzle and all of 0.78 high at 50 yards. I zero the rifle 2 inches high at 100 yards for a 225 yard zero where I'm only 2.3" high at 130 yards - giving me 250 yards point blank range where I'm never higher or lower then 2 and a half inches. |

(Paul) No matter what range he zeros at the bullet will always be 4" low at the muzzle, the dot is that far above bore centerline if it's mounted on top of the carry handle. Zeroing at 31 yards puts the round 2.3" high at 50 and 7.4 at 100. This is a highly unsatisfactory sight setup. If zeroed at 50 yards the bullet is just about 2" low at 25 yards and continues to climb to a maximum trajectory of about 5" high at 200 yards. No worse, really, than the standard 300 meter zero with the iron sights. The above assumes an AR15 carbine and M193 Ball, which seems to be most common.
