I plan on mounting a Weaver Grand Slam scope which has a 1" tube on my Bushmaster Varminter.  The varminter comes with 1/2" mini-risers onto which the bases attach.  I'm looking to use either the 1" medium Leupold mark 4 rings which are .84" from the ring base to the center of the ring, or the medium Volquatsen Nova rings which are .54" from the bottom of the base to the center of the rings.  If I use these rings am I going to get a proper cheek weld on the stock when looking thru the scope?  Or do I need to get higher or lower rings when using whatever rings I decide on in conjunction with the mini risers.  Thanks

I have a scope on a flat-top with rings that put 1/2" between the flat-top and the bottom of the scope (or about 1" to center) and I think it's too low.  I just got an Armalite one-piece mount that puts the bottom of the scope at 3/4" (or 1-1/4" to center) and I think that will be about right.  So I'd go with the Leupold rings.

But make sure that you'll be able to put the scope far enough forward.  You might need to use an extended rail or an offset mount to get the scope far enough forward.

You need to have the center of the scope about 1.3" to 1.4" above the rail to get the same cheek weld as regular A2 irons.  The risers are 0.5" so you need 0.9" high rings (more or less).

I'd get the 1" Mk4 rings.  The Volquatsen Novas would probably be too low.

The Leupold QRW 1" rings would also work, and they only cost $40 from www.premierreticles.com.  They do repeat zero and come off pretty quickly.

Eye relief may not be ideal unless you go a different route and move the scope farther forward.

What's the advantage of the Armalite one-piece mount?  I keep reading about it and am trying to decide between the Armalite or going with a riser or use ARMS 19 and ARMs rings.  Still trying to decide on a decent scope, but it will be at least high power.

The Armalite mount does move the scope forward a little bit.  Mounting a scope directly on the reciever does not give enough eye relief for some scopes, such as the Leupold 3.5-10.

Its also cheap compared to the ARMS/Mk4/Badger options.
