can someone explain the concept of the Eotch sights?
I have seen pix of it mounted on a flat top  with flip up rear sight. What is th reason for the rear sight? Are you using it for aiming or just back up? It looks like the eotech that is mounting the eotch between the front and rear sights is to magnify the front sight. But that doesnt sound right. Can someone explain the use of the Eotech sighting system to me so I can understand its use.

I might be able to shed some light on this for you.

First of all, the EOtech is a 1x or non-magnified sight.  This just means that you can pretty much mount it anywhere on the gun and see through it clearly because it has unlimited eye relief as a result of no magnification.

Next, the iron sights you see behind the EOtechs are BUIS (BackUp Iron Sights).  Mainly they are used in case the optic fails or is severly damaged and can be removed.  You can also use the iron sights in combination with the EOtech to aim at a target.  This is known as cowitnessing.

The cool thing about the EOtech (and the Aimpoint) is that they are parallax free.  What this means is that once you have zeroed each sight, you can then use them without perfectly positioning you head behind the sight.  So if you can see the dot in the window of the sight, that is where the bullet is going, even if the dot is in the upper-right corner of the sight.  It's a cool feature.

I hope that helped.  Feel free to ask additional questions.

Drivie is 100% correct.

1 further point.  These sights are used with both eyes open.
