Well, the factory Rings are usually 1".  I'm not sure of the tube size for that aim point (30mm) was suggested by an associate.  If you got 30mm rings, positioning might be a problem.  Ring height is not an issue, just get the right hight rings.

If finding 30mm rings or putting other tube sized devices on, I saw a product that puts a Weaver rail on the Mini using the factory receiver mounts.  So mounting a sight to it is no problem.  Brownells had one in their catalog when I was thumbing through.

Another option is to put a forward mount.  It goes where the handguard is.  I don't know who has them, but this was suggested.

I thought the ranch rifle had a rail on it, or is it just a mount?

Chuck:

The Ranch Rifle I had, before I gave up on it, had only four small recesses for Ruger rings to be screwed onto the receiver. I bought a rail from Brownells which fit the recesses and allowed the attachment of other rings or accessories to the rifle. Never could get a Reflex II to zero with that setup, so I sold it to someone who liked it better than I did, and bought another AR.

In addition to LastDefender's suggestion (which is a very good one, btw), in the Brownells' catalog, there is a weaver rail which clamps onto the factory ring mounts.

I had mine installed on my AK and it was done at the time of the build.  I was told by Derek at AZEX that it was very simple to install.

LastDefender, thank you!

I have a Mini that was just sitting in the safe.  With that link I believe you just gave it a new life.

no gun smithing... the part where the rail goes has to come off doesnt it?

joozy,

Yes it does.  The rail mount replaces the upper hand guard.

Joe,

You are most welcome.  For Mini owners considering a red dot sight application, I feel this mount is the way to go.

VERY easy. You take it off when you clean the gun. It just snaps on. This rail looks like the best idea. Hell I mite evey buy a Mini if it have one on it.

Just kidding. Had a Mini. Now I have several AR's.

The factory handguard cover is a snap on, you just pull up on it.

Looks to me like the Scout mount replaces both the handguard and the top part of the gas block.
You till need a screwdriver or cleaning rod and a proper sized allen wrench. Be careful, there is a samll stainless steel bushing that connects the gas block (underside where the front swivel is) to the barrel. DO NOT LOSE THIS PART. With this part the Mini-14 is very reliable. With out it, it won't be worth a shit.

easily done.  Just have the right tools.  A nice big table to work on.  A vise, rifle rest, or a friend to help hold the rifle.  Be comfortable and take your time.  Should take about 10-20 minutes.

Walla!

It's not rocket science.  You won't break anything.
