| I have a 16" bull barrel rifle, and I am currently using an ATN 5x33L scope. I am very pleased with the scope, but I seek higher magnification. I would like to buy a 10 to 15 power tactical/target scope for around $400, but I will go as high as $500 for a great scope. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks... |

Leupolds VariXIIIs are good. I think the Nikon Monarch and Bushnell 4200 are a bit better and a little cheaper, but they don't have much in the way of tactical/target models. I think Nikon makes a 3.5-10 and a 6.50-20 with mildots, and the Bushnell only has a 6-24. I'd look around and see if they make one that meets your needs. I'd take the 4200 over the VariXIII any day. Also take a look at the top of the line Weavers; their optics are supposed to be about as good as the Leupold. They make a target model. The Zeiss conquest has glass as good as the 4200, and they are coming out with a number of tactical/target models. You might take a look at them also, but they are kind of on the edge of your price range. Make sure whatever mount you choose gives you enough eye relief. You might need a SWAN sleeve or some kind of extended rail. |
