The XD series is not the newest series of Aimpoint. The newest series is the M2 or ML2. The XD (X-treme Duty) series, or more specificly the Comp M-XD or Comp ML-XD were the Aimpoint being sold right before the new series. Generally speaking, they are the same optic. There were a couple of upgrades and differences between the 2 series (like reticle size), but the biggest difference is that the newer M2/ML2 series has between 1,000 and 10,000 hours of battery life. The XD series had between 100 and 1,000 hours. Clearly the newer series has much more life. However, the older XD series still has a lot of life and if you find a new or used one for a good deal, I would still pick it up.

What ever NewARGuy said.  I concur.

Just to add, the battery is always done in the most perfect test environment, the real life battery expectancy will not perform as advertised. As far as competition is concern, no one can touch the duration of an Aimpoint.
