If one were to mount an EOTECH 552 to an M4 with a GG&G A2 buis and a RASII would there be enough room between the BUIS and the RASII hump to do it?  Or is there enough room on the "hump" to do it?  I would'nt want the Eotech way to far out on the hanguard rails.  Also does the 552 come with mounting already so it can be put on the flt top or rails or do you have to buy a seperate mount?  Thinking about getting the RASII and I already have an aimpoint for the other rifle so I thought I would go for the Eotech on this one.  I could always swap sights on the two rifles if the Eotech won't mount with the RASII.  THanks in advance and hope this is'nt to garbled!

No, there wont be enough room behind the hump to mount the EoTech and BUIS. No, the hump is too small to mount the EoTech and even if you did, it would be too high to co-witness. Mount that thing out on the handguards!! Forward mounting dot optics is superior than mounting it closer to your eye for several reasons. That would be the ideal spot for it, and the RAS II is one of the only (in fact, I think *THE* only) rail handguard system that you could safely mount it to without fear of losing zero AND maintaining co-witness capabilities. Why wouldnt you want it there?

Add to ARGuy, EOTech 551 would be a much better alternative, since it is a shorter unit then the 552.  although the 552 has a longer battery life.  Also the EOTech comes with mount already build into the sight that will bolt directly to a flattop upper.

I also suggest mounting the EOTech in front of the RAS2 hump, the available field of view is amazing.

Reason for mounting on top of the reciever or near Delta ring was the reason you answered in that holding zero was the issue.  But since you say it is a non issue then coooool!  Other than that there is no real preference.  I've just done it that way with no forward rail in the past but with the SIR it seems OK enough. Other than the rail on the SIR that runds out over the barrel seems less substantual than the RASII
On the SIR the EOTECH can mount anywhere I assume but since the SIR's rail is raised above the flat top like the "hump" would that mean it too would'nt co witness the sights?  I have the SIR on the other rifle with the aimpoint M2 on a ARMS#22 M68 2 and it lines up with the irons fine. Just thought I would ask.  Thanks you guys for the advice.  Perfect!!!!!

So would you guys recommend the 551 or the 552?  I would rather go for a small unit but don't want to regret the lower bat. life later on.  Is the 552 quite a bit bigger?  Thanks in advance!

I left my 551 on over night, it shut off automatically.  The 551 has enough juice for any tuff assignment you can throw at it.  552 adds about an inch to the 551.

SIR and RAS II are the only two rail systems available that you wont have to worry about losing zero with handguard mounted optics. EoTech on a SIR wont lose zero, but it will be too high to co-witness. Eotech on a RAS II handguard rail will be just fine. No loss of zero, and mounted at the correct height to co-witness. Good luck, good set up!

Thanks new-arguy!  You all have made up my mind.  you post alot with alot of good advice.  Much appreciated!  I'm looking forward to trying out the eotech.  I have the Aimpoint M2 and love it but thought I would try something else out on the other rifle and their are alot of proponents of the eotech on here.....and like all ar15.com discussions......alot of dissenters.......:)THanks again!!!Horik
