I'm building a new 16" sprish clone and I'm down to optics selection. The idea is for a very light accurate gp service rifle/trunk gun. Most of the rifles I'm seeing built are utilizing 1x-4x optics set up to co-witness the irons.

I have always been inclined to use more scope than that. I guess it's the prairie poodle hunter in me...

I recently shot a friend's flat top with an illuminated 10x56 IOR tactical on it. Once I got used to the gun, it was quite easy to use BAC/both eyes open to pop stuff inside 50m and it was super easy (comparatively speaking) to make those 100+m gongs ring.

bla bla bla!!

My question is, what are the compelling reasons for using low powered optics?
- Parallax?
- FOV?
- Speed?

Is the IOR scope the right choice for this gun?

You hit the 3 most top reasons to stick with non/ low power magnification. You indicated this is going to be a General purpose Rifle /  Trunk weapon, not sure if that means you are an LEO. But anything thats going to take a ride with you continuosly should be at the least as shock proof as they make and able to take a beating in the sense of it getting banged around. Just some thing to keep in perspective. HTH
