I've never liked the metal GI mags for several reasons. I had a friend give me 6 for free so I thought it would be a good time to try the magpul replacement followers. Also, I put new springs in the mags while I was at it. It came out super cheap, like $3.50 a mag to do

HERE is my youtube video showing the mags that I rebuilt

I'm wondering if you guys have tried them and what you think about them. Will they make junk GI mags into something reliable?

I'm looking forward to getting these to the range and trying them out. One of the GI mags I know for certain was bad

I use Magpul Gen III followers in ALL of my G.I. Magazines

In addition I use Magpul Ranger L floorplates, if you have ever dropped a loaded G.I. Magazine on a hard surface, you know it's common for the stock floorplate to bend and fly off. The Magpul Ranger plates will not bend.

I also use Magpul gen 3 anti-tilt followers, Ranger plates (with handle) with my mag chest rig and the L-plates (without handle) on my other spare mags.

I started using these Ranger plates when they first came out around 2005 and the  L-plates several years later, I've got about 40+ USGI type D&H mags in gray and black finish all have these upgrades, they all works great, no problems.

On my mags that I use with mainly my carbine gas system I also use Wolff extra power mag springs.

Here are some ARFCOM dealers that sells the Magpul L-Plates and other accessories.

Thanks but why are these things so expensive? It would be $40 to do the 6 mags I have

Cost of manufacturing.

It is a stamped stainless steel plate over molded with rubber (that has to be hand loaded when molding) along with a separate injection molded lock plate

I have redone all my mags with magpuls followers because I was experiencing some feeding issues. They have work flawlessly. I run the original magpuls on them and with leaving a good portion of the loop under the baseplate they protect from most drops.

Can I ask a question?

How many of you people have actually had issues that were caused by the green followers?

I am going off the top of my head but large scale testing showed these malfunction averages.

Original Black followers -1 malfunction in every 2000-3000 rounds
Updated Green followers - 1 malfunction in every 4000-5000 rounds
Updated Tan/Magpul followers - 1 malfunction in every 9000-10000 rounds

These are for follower specific malfunctions using government issue M4/M16s and factory issued ammo.

As you can see the numbers are such that many will not shoot a sample size large enough to see a malfunction but during a single day of live fire by a military unit the difference is noticeable.

You are much, much, much more likely to miss the target you are shooting at because of shooter error than you are to miss what you are shooting at because of a "follower malfunction"

Magpuls seem to have a much lower friction coefficient. I use these with Wolff +10% springs and I have about six mags set up this way with at least 10k rounds on each, to include rounds on auto, and they still work great.
