As a new AR owner I went out to purchase more Mag's and I notice there are many different brands to choose form.  Is there anyting to stay away from?  Our metal mag's better?

Nothing wrong with GI mags, but Magpul PMAGs are the most popular polymer.

There was a thread of someone in the military doing torture tests of different kinds of mags and I think they found that gen 2 pmags were the most reliable out there. I can't seem to locate it right now, but it was a great read.

Save yourself some grief and get some gen 2 pmags when you see them for around 10 dollars each. Buy 10, shoot with 5 of them and keep the other 5 just in case. Chances are you will never do anything close to breaking your pmags so after around 100 dollars you've essentially bought magazines for life.

Stay away from Promag and Thermold unless you just use them for range mags (not to trust your life to).

USGI mags are GTG
Pmags are great

I personally prefer the D&H teflon coated mags with Magpul followers.

DSG Arms has the grey D&H teflon coated mags in stock right now for $9.25!  They also carry the black ones but not in stock right now.

YMMV
