Ive been a 1911 shooter and bolt action shooter now for 40 years.  Im just getting into ar's.  This weekends gunshow gave me the chance to stock up on mags:

1.  450 30rnd pmags and tapco mags
2.  100 20 rnd pmags

Comments on quality?

Recommend some aluminum mags if you could.

Thanks

I personally don't use pmags as some of them don't work in my lower (DPMS).

What I do use are the 30rd Troy battlemags and 10rd Lancer mags.

Both are good quality and reliable. From what I've heard pmags are pretty good.

Already had the 15k ammo to fill all those mags with? I've been shooting Pmags for a few years now and they've always done good by me. As far as aluminum mags, just get the standard USGI mags that you see out there. No need to spend $$$ on H&K, or FN IMHO.

Ahh thats what i was thinking.  Ive decided to get abot 100 of the d&h 30 rounders at $89/10 mags.  As to ammo, i covered that this weekend at the show with just over 20k rounds, 10k being pmc ball.

Im firm in thinking one should have enough ammo on hand to fill all the mags you have.  Lol, actually i have a custom built underground climate controled ammo bunker a ways from the house.  Comparmented, fire resistant rooms and doors with sprinklers and independent alarm.  Besides, this was the ONLY way to mollify the wife.

Sounds like a pretty BA setup you have sir. When your done you'll have quite the ammo cache.

I've used standard USGI since 1972 (72 to 86 in USMC, USMCR) and since the late 80s personally.  Currently I have only Okay Industries mags to which I've fitted Magpul Gen 2 or Gen 3 followers, and 10 of the new Center Industries 30 rd USGI mags with the issue coyote brown follower.  Note that the latter use a non-traditional spring geometry and the dummy cartridge is on the opposite side from the rest of the USGIs.

I'd also recommend picking up some USGI 20s, preferably with the die-cast followers but the later Adventureline 20s with the black polymer followers work just as well.  20s are nice for bench work because 30s are simply too long unless you sandbag the weapon higher, or the bench has a mag sutout (not many benches do).
