A while back someone was talking about loading a pile of ammo and the discussions included mention about how long it takes to load magazines.

I was curious on the difference in the time it takes to load magazines, so I loaded mags on the clock.

5 magazines loaded from a pile of ammo by hand took 6 minutes and 25 seconds, for an average of 77 seconds per magazine

5 magazines loaded from a pile of ammo with a single shell (non-strip) Lula took 4 minutes and 45 seconds for an average of 57 seconds per magazine, including time to attach the Lula and move it between mags. I was surprised this was not faster.

5 magazines loaded from a pile of stripper clips took 2 minutes 25 seconds for an average of 29 seconds per magazine, including time to attach the spoon and move it between mags. I was a little surprised how much faster stripper clips was.

Still curious if using a strip Lula is any quicker for strips or pile of loose ammo.

Try multiplying by 10 your sample size and see if your by hand time stays the same.  For me the lula was more about saving my thumb loading a large quantity of mags.

I can often grab two rounds when loading with a striplula but I've never timed myself. Sure seems quicker.

I know using the uplula loading pistol mags sure as hell is fast and saves my thumbs the abuse.

Yeah I could definitely see wearing out my thumb after even 10 mags.

I know I really struggle to get the 20th round into the mag of my sig TACOPS mag - my the 4th mag I NEED my Lula because I have probably broken off the tip of my thumb.

Great info,

I've been looking at getting Lula...

But haven't' cuz all my ammo is currently coming in on strippers with spoon in the can...

If you could test strippers on the Lula that would be great...

Also,

Just a question...

I find the Pmags load MUCH better than any other mag I have with the strippers and the spoon...Just my 2 cents...

Stripper clips should be the quickest since you have taken the time to pre-organize them onto the stripper clips. With loose ammo you spend a lot of time getting a round into position for loading. With stripper clips you have positioned them ahead of time. With a stiplula and loose ammo you would have to grab 10 rounds with one hand and drop them into the striplula perfectly positioned to equal the speed of stripper clips.

Loading mags never bother me, as I only shoot 20rds at a time.  After the 20 is gone, I sit back, relax, and pop in another 20rds.  Slow and steady for me.

THIS.

After loading many 1000's of rounds by hand and using the USGI spoons & strippers, the StripLULA (and most LULA's) was clearly a no brainer.  I bring an avg 12-20+ mags to the range at a time, usually going thru at least 12.  (I got a ton of NIW USGI's to function test.). I always load the next batch of newly opened NIW mags when I wrap up my day of shooting.

It's gonna take time no matter what to load mags.  A LULA makes it more productive.  Plus, if you consider things like a bugout bag or packs, survival, fast reload, fast response, preparedness, reducing carry weight, compactness, etc., as important to you, keeping anything that makes mag reloads faster is important.  For me the StripLULA worked - it's the smallest, most compact, fastest for it's size, and fits in a pistol mag pouch.  Closest size and weight to the USGI spoons with a LOT less PITA to use.

If you do any amount of loading magazines the strip-lula is a very valuable tool.
Allows you to quickly and accurately load mags with loose ammo or rounds on stripper clips.
