Quick question guys. When opening the pmags for the first time I removed the dust catch or whatever it is called and on one side of the pmag it looks like I cracked something. Is this normal?

Kk. The problem is where you can see the red mark I made. It looks like when I flipped the dust cover off, it snapped part of the top of the mag off. It looks uneven and not right. I looked at pictures on google images and many other people have the same thing. Is this normal?

Normally, when I pull the charging handle back, with a empty 20 round factory colt magazine inserted, the bolt locks in the rear most position allowing me to press the bolt release. I can also press the magazine release and the mag will fall free.

Now, with a  Pmag inserted, I can pull the charging handle back and the bolt will lock, but I cannot press the bolt release. When I push the magazine release, (NOT the bolt release), the bolt goes forward.

Any ideas guys?

This does not seem right to me. As was posted above, I would return it, then see how the replacement functions. MagPul will make it right.

Do you only have one P-mag? If not, are you having this problem with all of your P-mags? It definitely sounds mag related, and I am willing to bet that the little piece that broke off is the cause. It is a little disappointing that the mag broke that easily.

Call Magpul, they will make it right.

I lubed up my bolt catch and it seemed to solve the problems.

So if you take a look at your mags and take a look at the second picture I have here, does it look the same with the U shaped cut in the back of the mag?

Your mag looks fine from what I can tell. Did a piece break of? Did you hear a cracking noise? Is it possible these are mold marks? If you have more do they look the same? If you load it to capacity does it spit cartridges out? Perhaps a range trip will help best.

make sure you are pulling the bcg all the way back, because i have noticed that when i use pmags the bolt release will get caught between the back of the bolt lugs and the actual carrier if it is not cycled completely back. doing this the bcg will remain locked back, but not completely, until the mag is dropped then its slams home

This in essence is the problem I think. I still make sure I am trying to do this with all my magazines but it appears out of the 3 I have tried only one magazine works properly. The others do not. Last night, thanks to Whiskey, (The person not the drink), I lubed up the Colt and all mags worked fine. Currently, even though I lubed the bolt catch, only one mag works fine.

The Colt is NIB do you think actually firing it will help?

The bolt wil move farther back when fired than when being pulled by the charge handle so they may be fine

The Mag looks good from the pics.

We have a lot of these fielded in Colt factory guns so you should be good.

If not let our tech support know and we will replace the mags.
