You could cut a wooden rod to the correct length... or you could buy some CProd 5 rounders.

Not much help, but:

There's a guy/company that makes inserts for the California market, but I don't recall the name.

You can carve a piece of wood that will fit inside the spring.

OP - I understand why/what you're asking (since some won't).  But Joe_Pennsy offers some VERY wise advice.  I STRONGLY 2nd his suggestion to use a piece of wood to fit inside the spring.  WHY?  Because ANYBODY out there that actually does make and sell what you're looking for is going to easily charge you 20-50 times what its worth you doing that yourself.

I know... I once bought the Sinclair Single Shot Follower, for $14.95.  (Its $17.95 now from Brownells/Sinclair)  I could have done without that and done things a different way for just pennies.

It's surprising none of the manufacturers make a cheap plastic one. The company that makes the german Pmag copies makes a 20 rounder with a removable T-shaped insert to switch from 20 to 5 rounds.

For you folks in those banned states...man, I feel for ya.  Those mag-blocks aren't a bad deal if you buy a 10-pack, considering the time and effort for a DIY.  But it sure adds to the cost of a mag, and I'd hate to epoxy this mag-block to make a 30-rd mag hold 10-rds "permanently" for those Cali folks.
