I have some plain jane regular ol' windowless 30 rd P-mags. I am gonna use them for my BOB mags as they are pretty much indestructable. How long can they stay loaded and do I have to worry about the spring taking a set or losing force? or are they GTG for long term

Thanks, figured I'd check just to make sure.

Indefinitely, just use the pmag top cover.

You really dont even need the top cover...its actually just a dust cover, but if it makes you sleep better at night for long term storage, then just use it.

I don't own any but they say the dust cover takes the pressure off the feed lips so they don't deform...

Why not use them? It does take pressure off feed lips but magpul claims to have one loaded for a very long time and it has not lost feed lip strength. They way I see it, it don't matter. If something goes wrong with my pmag, they normally replace them. Just keep an eye of the shape of your mags if you use them for real life situations (war, police, home defense), and not just range time.

On a side note, nothing lasts indefinitely lol.

I don't remember who it was, but in another thread someone had mentioned he had one that has been loaded for 2yrs and had no issue with it.  I'm sure someone will come along to say "this has been asked twenty billion times blah blah blah............but for what it's worth, from all the times I've seen this argued, many have said the spring compression isn't bad, it's when it's compressed, then let loose, then compressed, over and over and over that can make a spring weak.

Correct. If it is under constant compression there is no prob. A spring is just that, it wont loose its coefficient of tension under a constant load. And thats for springs in general, im not talking Pmags here. But every spring will drop its tensile strength or Ability to push with the same energy over prolonged use. Its a type of metal fatigue.

2 different issues.  The PMAG issue in question is not spring-related––it is feed lip deformation related.

I was responding to Txsoldier. But true, 2 different issues there.
