what say you hive mind ,pmags with windows or pmags without, opinions please

I got them without the windows.  But now I look back at it and wish I had gone with the windows.  If you really don't like the windows for whatever reason, put some paint on it and it'll dissapear.....  All in all, there's no downside to having the window over no window.  Go with the windowed version.

Whatever you can buy the most of. Personally I've never found the windows to be all that helpful, although they look cool.

Pmags are about as good as it gets for an AR magazine. I've been seeing them in reasonable numbers in various training outings for a while now and I have yet to see one that had an issue.

Really don't care.  I think I have one or two with windows but it's the same magazine.  Someone actually made a how to on cutting out the area and putting in a "window" for those that wanted them.  I saw someone else paints them and puts the number of rounds on them.  I think you can tell a magazine is full just by picking it up.  Window not needed.  I don't think I'll ever be worried if I have 24 or 28 rounds.

I run a couple pmags without windows and have even more with windows

they're both good to go. I do prefer the new larger  window with the round count over the previous maglevel pmag

you can't go wrong with pmags though

I have five of each occasionally its nice to have the windows for rounds remaining but in reality when the SHTF you change mags long before you need to. I might use them to see what mags are dry or can be combined.

I had quite a few windowed mags and realized I never really took advantage of the window during training. I sold them a bought non windowed mags. The way I look at it, for every 5-6 windowed Pmags bought, that could be 1 or 2 more regular Pmags in the range bag. Non windowed Pmags all the way in my opinion.

+1.....For me, they're "tacticool" but not practical. I've got a lot of Pmags and 90% are non windowed.

get the cheapest ones.. mrevs or non-windowed

The only time I've found the windows to be useful is when I'm running a match and I'm too lazy/too far from my vehicle/too short on time to reload mags, so I dig through the half empty ones and find the ones with just enough rounds to run the stage. Practical application? Zero, IMHO.

Among other situations, windows are very handy in a military or LE environment when mags may have to be shared between multiple operators.  For example, if someone tosses you a magazine, you pick one up off a supply table or out of the grass, pre and post combat engagement checks, etc.

What is a "pre and/or post combat engagement check"?

AKA A ACE or LACE report for those of us in the military. Never heard it being called a "pre and/or post combat engagement check"

I use the windowed because it seems handy.  Don't really use it much though, I'll admit.

One thing I do wish they made were windowed 20 rounders.  At a high-power match, you have to load one mag with 2 and one mag with 8.  And yes, I have screwed up which one I've grabbed when.  A window would be handy there.

I have both. Get 1 window one for taking pics then save the money by getting non-windowed ones and buy some Ranger Plates.

The standard AR15.com answer is get BOTH.

I have both versions, with the mags without windows even if I try to keep them fully loaded or totally empty sometimes they're partially loaded and I don't know how much is in there unless I fully load or unload them.

With my mags with window no guessing, specially when they get mixed up the fully loaded ones with partially loaded mags.

I've got both.  I found some windowed ones at a gunshow a few months ago for the same price as "normal" pmags ($13.50) and bought five of them.  I bought them because they looked neat.  I see no real advantage to them for casual range use, but someone who does run and gun stuff or maybe a LEO might.  I won't pay more for the windowed ones over the standard pmags.

I've always been intrigued of being able to see my ammo through my magazines.  All of my PMags are the windowed version.  If I wanted one without the windows then I'm better off just saving money and get USGI.

I would like someone on here to tell me what makes P-mags so great?  Details please ;)

I am a realist, and find it funny that some people warship at the altar of the P-mag lol

Lancer came out with a mag that topped it, and now it looks as if CAA is close to releasing a mag that actually counts every round for you.

I'm waiting for one that will cook and clean for me, now thats an investment!

You don't like them- don't buy them. It's really that simple.

I'm by no means an expert on this, but here's why all my new mag purchases are PMags

1) The AR platform is 40 years old.  In that time, it's gone through numerous upgrades to fix inevitable problems.  However, one of the written complaints I've seen in articles and books is that the AR magazine is wholly inferior to the AK magazine.  After seeing them both, I agree.  The Aluminum AR magazine is both flimsy, and prone to failures.  Until recently, we've been using the same AR mags for a long time.  Pmags represent an upgrade.  The specifics are in my below points.

2) The aluminum AR mag lips are weak and flimsy.  They will bend.  The plastic PMag lips appear to be at worst equal, and may well be better.  In any event, they come with (item 3):

3) The magazine covers are tidy, they relieve stress on the magazine lips for long term storage, and keep dust and such out of the magazine.  Not everyone likes them, and I've heard reports of long term storage test without the cover that worked out just fine.  But it's nice to have the option.

4) Pmags are stronger than the aluminum mags.  There's plenty of destructive test u-tube videos that show it.  I don't plan on driving over my magazines with a truck, but I do plan on sitting on them, crushing them in my pack, dropping them, and basically the standard abuse such equipment will inevitably face.

5) Pmags are proven.  Thousands of them have been deployed for months (years) overseas and heavily used at home.  They pass all tests with flying colors and are at worst as good as the GI mags.  By most accounts they're superior.

6) Pmags have no-tilt followers.  I've seen rounds in aluminum mags nose dive into the forward wall, so yes, it does happen.  Never seen it with a Pmag.  And doubt I will.

7) Pmags have an internal nose alignment rail.  I won't say for sure it helps, but it seems like a good idea to keep rounds from rocking-and-rolling around in the magazine during recoil, etc.

8) Pmags come in a variety of exciting colors!  OK, not important to most, but I have an OD Green middy.  I think it's spiffy to be able to have magazines match.

9) Pmags come with windows.  Will I use it?  Haven't really needed it yet, but seems kind of handy to be able to tell what mags are loaded and what ones aren't in a pile without even having to touch them.

10) Pmags are easier to grasp.

Maybe Lancers are just as good - or even better.  But are they as proven as well?  In any event, my hat's off to Lancer and the others.  Competition keeps the dealers honest on the prices.  So please, buy the competition!

If you can only see one round in the window, how many rounds are left in your mag?

How do you know he didn't mean "warship"?  The concept of someone worshipping a box with a spring is silly.
