I recently dug some mags out of a storage cabinet. I found seven Adventure Line 30 round mags and six Colt 20 round mags.
The Adventure Lines have black plastic followers. The Colts have metal followers. Should I replace any of the followers with after market followers like I have seen in Brownell's? Thanks |

Thank you lamarbrog. I have been out of the EBR business for a while. The last Colt AR15 I bought was a LEO purchase in 1998. Don't have that rifle, but I am working on a couple of deals to pick up an AR soon.
Not real sure about some of the high speed, low drag accessories I read about. I am pretty happy with just a good basic rifle. |
| Since you live in TX, a free state, you might consider that you could get maybe $20 each for those preban Adventure mags from someone in NY or MA. Then turn around and buy new Okays for $10-12 on the EE when you can catch them. You get a new mag, and some poor soul in a Ban state gets something he can use. |

I'm running a pretty basic system right now... CMMG 16" carbine length gas upper Double Star lower w/ DS parts kit BCM receiver extension w/ MagPul MOE stock. I'm perfectly happy with the basic model.... Although I want to do a free float rail, so I can toss on a vertical grip, and a flashlight... maybe a red dot eventually. Slowly, but surely, you too will end up spending $5,000 by this time in 3 years. |

Are they really having that tough of a time getting magazines? I thought they were pretty well stocked with surplus USGI. |

Uni-Vibe - thanks for the information. Sure. That's what I did with about 15 prebans I bought during the Ban. I had installed new SS springs and green USGI followers so they were all updated. I put them online for around $15-$20 depending on condition. I wasn't doing charity work; that was the going rate; but the northeastern guys got updated prebans in great shape at a reasonable price and I got money to buy new USGI mags at 2:1. Everyone's a winner. |

Quoted: The Colts with the metal followers are collectable. That really depends... If they are the dull aluminum alloy, it doesn't add any to the value especially if they are used. You can get them at gun shows all day long for $15... and a lot here would consider that gouging. Shiny aluminum alloy followers are worth more... |

Like these http://home.comcast.net/~cjan99999/Refurbed_Mags.JPG Of course, I destroyed the value of mine by rebuilding and refinishing them-but I never intended to sell them anyway. Most of mine have the old floorplates too. Ooooooh, ahhhhhh........ So shiny.... so pretty. Do you have any dull alloy followers, so we can see comparison pics? I've just got one, that I think is using a dull alloy.... but I don't know fi it was originally dull, or has just become that way from use and abuse. |

I appreciate all the suggestions. I will probably just keep the mags. The 30 round mags have little, if any wear. The 20 round mags look solid, but have very little finish left. I actually like 20 round mags for general shooting.
I should find out if my AR 15 trade deal will go through today. This one is a used Colt. Got another possible deal pending on a new S&W M15. Many years ago, a buddy of mine had some property way out in the sticks. Great place to shoot.l. He was a Class III dealer, so we shot many fun guns. The M-60 was the most fun. After a few years, he sold the property. I really had no place to shoot for a while and traded off most of my EBRs. I now have property and a gun range, but it is not as far out as my friend's. I shoot alot -mostly handguns. I recently put in a 100 yard rifle range. I let local LEO's shoot at my place, so I am sure it sounds like a battle field on occassion. One department is going to qualify 12 officers within the next two weeks. No complaints from neighbors yet. |

I tossed several of them a few years ago because the feedlips were worn out. Since the springs and followers were pretty beat up I didn't keep any of the individual parts. |
