While at the local gun show I was pouring over a box of magazines, hundreds of different magzines for every type of firearm, and found this HK marked magazine that looked like, and in fact did, fit an AR15. It's marked; floor plate HK (Logo HK), left side, 5.56mm x 45, RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT/GOVENMENT USE ONLY 10-94, Heckler & Koch Gmbh, Made in Germany, Heckler & Koch Defense Inc., Stearling, VA. There is an AF where the mag catch goes but in this magazine it is an indent, not a hole. Metal box and follower.
It's in definitely servicable condition, follower slides like it's riding on silk, no dents, just some finnish wear. What the heck is this and where did it come from? |

Thats an H&K improved magazine for the M16.
The marking of "AF" is a date code for when it was manufactured. Hit the search feature and you will see how folks went crazy over this H&K goodness, until it showed long term troubles. 1) H&K doesn't support fresh parts for the magazine (springs) and wants you to buy another complete magazine when it gets tired. 2) The spring gets tired and will not lock open the action after the last round. 3) The magazines can eventually rust if they do not receive reasonable care. 4) They are more expensive than USGI and even PMags,,,,but are less durable. 5) the list can go on and on. Shoot the magazine and enjoy it. I would not throw it away, but would not carry it for professional use. HTH |

Quoted: If it's used and someone sold it, that's because it didn't work right any more. This is the probable explanation. Most likely, a worn out spring. How much did you pay? They go new for $50-$75... So, you might have gotten a good deal for a "fixer-upper" depending what you payed. They are very common... They come from Germany. They are insanely over-priced... and, as has been stated, HK does not stand behind their product at all. They offer nothing over PMags that I am aware of. If you like how they look, constant curve and all, you could try a IWI magazine at $30, or a Cammenga EZ mag at around $25. I have not tried IWI, but the Cammenga EZ is good to go with a great to-tilt follower. |

Not counting the price of admission they were $5.00. I figured there was something wrong if it was in this box in the first place. Did the search. I thought I had something rare. It seems to function fine in my ARs but haven't tried it with ammo yet.
Oh well, if nothing else it makes a neat paper weight. |

If the body, follower, and floor plate mechanism are functional... the thing could easily be repaired if it doesn't work with a new spring. Do the feed lips look OK? |

Under a rock? LOL, these mags been out for a few years already, been there, wrecked that, sold them to the next guy. |

I'll take it to the pit tomorrow and see how it works.
