What happens to the defects, when these surplus magazines get sorted?
I saw a Colt 20 round magazine at a gun show... it was in a box with other Colts, selling for $25. This one was trash. One of the feed lips was bent back more than 90 degrees, and kind of twisted-torn off. The body was crushed, so badly that the follower wouldn't move. I figured I could talk the guy into parting with it for a few dollars, so I could maybe salvage the fancy alloy follower, base plate, and spring after finding a way to cut off the body. Well, I asked... he wanted $15.... needless to say, it wasn't a deal. I didn't do it. What happens to all of these, though? Surely this magazine was not the only one horribly deformed. Can I buy up these junkers for greatly reduced prices, and try to salvage some parts from them? |
sounds like another vendor trying to rip people off by saying that the mags will still function because they're made by colt and have god like properties to them
If the feed lips are whats dead you can gut the mag, cut off the lips, fill it with cement, and use it as a vice block. dented bodies can still function fine...but it depends on how bad the dent is. you might be able to push the dent out, but you're probably better off just scrapping it for the floorplate, follower, and spring...you can then use the body like I mentioned before or take it to the range and shoot at it. The only other use for them is to sell them for their scrap weight of the aluminum. |
