If the type of magazine spring important for my Colt Ar-15 SP1, serial number from 1976?  I see CS and SS offered.  Is the choice important?

Yes and no - for strictly range work/mags stored in dry conditions the CS (chrome silicon) springs will probably serve you better in theory.  It can stand more cycles without excessive fatigue/weakening.

However, if there is a chance of them getting wet I would stick to the SS (stainless) springs as they are much more corrosion resistant, what the military currently uses, and I've never had any problems with them (even after lots of sitting loaded, multiple cycles, etc.).

You can't go wrong with either one, but IMO the stainless gives a tic more insurance the spring will not give problems if the SHTF.  But I live in a relatively wet and humid place, and you may not have that consideration.

I have some 20 round curved Cproducts range workers with CS springs.  They stay out in the garage.  TX humidity makes the springs rust.  No more CS springs for me.

Last couple of years here in central Texas, things rusted that I did not know could rust. However, my CS springs are just fine, both handgun mag and recoil springs and AR mag springs.
