I just pick'd up three 30 rd colt Mags for my AR at $34.99 each at a local gunshop.. I believe they're made of Alluminum.. Is this considered of better quality in comparison to "polymer" made mags like the magpul's.. (which were gone!) I still plan to go back soon as they get more magpul's in.. was this a smartbuy though?

The Colt mags do the same thing as other aluminum mags at an inflated price. I do not believe that Colt makes their own mags so you're paying for the name. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken. Pmags are currently the best mags on the market if you can find anything since the election.

At $34.00 you could have gotten HK's.  However your best bet is to look into some pmags.  If you cannot find some locally, get on the back order list.

As with anything else in the gun world, opinions differ.  I love my Magpul's an I do think they are the best mags out there.  But give it 60 seconds and someone will be here to disagree with me. :)

OMGod,,take them things back..good USGI's $10 each all day long
One's with care will last a lifetime.
I like the polymer mags..how long will they last?
Only time will tell.
But quality USGI..they are proven,,over & over & over

I've got a bunch of 30rd. & 20rd & by their serial #'s
I traced them back to the Vietman Era
& they function as good as new..
And they are old

Look for the 30's that were made by Formerly LaBelle Manf.
Top Notch & the black teflon one's are very attractive mags
If you like to look good?

Don't pay over $10-$13 each....not even for Colt because
Colt's are not any better than LaBelle,Okay,Adventure Line, Bushmaster etc..
If you pay more for the Colt name..that name is all you got
They ain't no better!
I know I have a pile of Colt's.

Sports Man's Guide has Colt 30rd mags for around $24(still too much)....Hate to say it, at $35 you took a hosing but, you live and learn.....They are good mags by the way...edit I have about fifteen 30 rd and fifteen 20 rd Colt mags

Haven't tried the Pmags, nor have I felt the need.  Good GI mags are out there in abundance right now; or they were, not sure this instant.
Don't beat yourself up too much over the mags; they are still good stuff.
Reputedly, Colt mags are actually NHMTG, which is also GTG.

I love P-Mags, although in Iraq the heat and the constant movement of taking them in an out, some of them cracked near the top. But i blame that on the elements, back here in the states they are rock solid, i wish i had more than 2 now that they are back ordered i fear ill never get another one.

As it stands I have 20  30 round regular Aluminum GI mags and i just upgraded 3 of them with the Magpul anti tilt follower, which now those 3 mags are awesome.

Yeh, Pmags are really good if you get them for under $15, saw them at a gunstore the other day for $44 something, a major ripoff.  Good ole gi mags are great as well.

44Mag.com is my mag source. Everything is backordered, though. GI mags are what I use. Someday I'll get some PMags to try out. But if I don't, I have NO problem sticking with Okays, D+H, or any other GI mag out there.

Where can i get these?

I've been buying new older 30rnd mags including colt and okay for around 20$. I've seen better prices online but these are in my hand before i buy with no back order and it keeps the money with local people i've known and who have been decent to me for years but at half price i'd place a order.

Yeah, OP.... oh it's been said - you know already...

I second the guy above me saying go with USGI mags, find someone who won't rape you on the price and buy as many as you can if you can find them for 10-13 dollars.

To give you an idea you could get 10 new black teflon D&H mags for $100 shipped from DSG before the election - w/ magpul followers no less... of course now they have none. In my opinion, that was the best value out there - truly great mags, my favorites after Pmags and Cproducts stainless steel.

Pmags are awesome too and don't hesitate to buy but don't wait forever on pmags if you can find affordable aluminum mags or even stainless steel (Cproducts SS = worth the $ IMO). Pmags, while awesome and capable of taking more of a beating than aluminum, are not 100% indestructible as some might have you believe, and pricier than USGI for sure. Have a healthy supply of USGI and Pmags, I say... I think it's a good idea not to have all one's eggs in the same basket...

I'd say try checking around w/ site vendors and put in a backorder... 44mag typically has good deals on various mags - Cproducts probably being the cheapest and certainly reliable in my experience...

Hope you find what you're looking for. Have you asked on your hometown forum?

Last year I bought 2 Colt mags just for the floorplate and the nostalgia factor...$$24 each...I have since bought 10 mags from DSG for $10 each with magpul followers and 10 with magpul followers for $12.95 each from BCM....So OK a little more for the Colts but it was still overpriced.

+1 for Pmags, unfortunately they're hard to find right now, I bought 15 of them earlier this year for $13 each

I consider the Colt logo on a magazine to be worth nothing additional.  Less than two months ago your $105 would have bought ten excellent quality mags, delivered.

BTW, aluminum is the standard for AR mags - the polymer mags still have to prove themselves.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

I would NEVER shop there again, and I'd tell them why.  Also post their name here so people in your area can know to avoid them as well.

Thats ok check out cheaper than dirt..another gouger.Check the equipment exchange youll find great gear used or new at the best prices.Even if somethings back ordered its worth the wait. For a non ban state Texas sure seems to be enjoying the hysteria as of late and cashing in.

Sounds like you didnt get a deal.  I am a pig fan of the PMAGs because they arent as clanky (LOUD) as the PMAGS and they have the dust cover that helps protect the lips ().

But Colt mags are regularly expensive for just USGI mags.

I bought 10- USGI 30 rd mags from armysurplusworld.com for 9.95 each, all were Okay Manufactured and in good used shape, just to be safe I ordered 10 rebuild kits from Model 1 sales and redid them.
I just checked their site and they list them now for 10.95 each.

The Colt mags are just as good/no better than USGI NHMTG mags. The ones you bought do have green followers at least right?

Damn sheisters.  Thats a shame...no decency.  I would venture to say you paid twice what your should have paid.  I would buy nothing but PMAGS here on out, there is nothing wrong with USGI mags either.  But obviously at the right price.

I still can't believe $35.

I see that you are in Texas.  If you live in the Houston area shoot me a PM and I will let you know where you can find PMags in stock for ~$20.  I think they had about 1000 of them last weekend.  There is also a gun show in Pasedena TX today, and another next weekend.  I went to this same gun show when it was in Houston and there were lots of mags to be found.

Not a bad deal but I remember those same black/orange follower mags going for 9.50 during the Cproducts special pricing thing around Halloween... I should have bought more...

Hrm, SS 20 rounders in stock too...

Man, you could get three PMAGS for the price of one of those Colt's. Return them and just get some from one of the sponsors for $11 - $14 apiece.
