The pre-ban ones that came on the market from the IDF were all worn out around the feeder lips. Some of them had date markings on the mag bodies.

They are indeed preban, but not necessarily anyone's first choice.  They have a tendency to develop cracks on the back/top of the spine and the feedlips.

IDF dumped them and went with standard USGI mags.  The markings are mold numbers.

Are these the mags that don't work with Bushmaster lowers?

Yeah...but I just ground down that ridge on a grinding wheel till they fit in my Bushy lower. No big deal.

Orlite mags with mold numbers of 0/20 and higher fit without modification.

Some additional thoughts:

They run best dry and clean (like 10/22 mags).

Feed lip cracks seem to develop faster on Orlites that have a solid rear flange, IME.  I've had cracks develop after as few as 10 mag dumps.  Most seem unaware that the mags are usually quite serviceable for many cycles after they develop cracks.  They become unserviceable as range mags only when tension is reduced to the point that you get double-feeds, or if rounds start popping out when you set the mag down.

Body cracks will also be noted, though they rarely interfere with function.  Cracks along the bottom will also be found - these are problematic b/c floorplates can let go.

Many Orlites that had been well-used were spruced up and resold.  Its more difficult to tell how much use they've had compared to USGI.

They continue to make good range mags for me.  I've been running a batch that started at 20 mags at MG shoots for just about 10 years.  Every year one or two end up in the trash heap.  Still have a few, and see no reason not to run them out.

Allowable COL seems to be greater with Orlites vs USGI (particularly compared to new mfg USGI).

I think everyone agrees that they are not SHTF worthy, but its not accurate to say that they're complete junk.

thanks guys,

after carefully looking them over, the ones I have are brand new...all have lower than 0/20 stamps so they have the ridge but i don't have a bushy so no problem.  they fit and drop from my RRA no problem.  There are no markings on it to prove it isn't pre-ban and I got them from a guy who said he bought everything pre-94.  the others i got were 91 or prior marked USGI, so these are GTG.

thanks
