Well, I just finished building my first rifle. Not just first ar first rifle period. Ive always had access to long guns so my first purchase was a pistol. I loved the look of the AR seeing as how my wife is not much for my hobby I only get a limited amount each month to spend towards it.(Some of you can feel my pain:), but how do some of you guys afford this stuff yes you know who you are with 10k worth of 30 rd mags) Anyhow the weapon is finished and i needed to decide what kind of mags to get. All the hype has been pmags. I originally dismissed them as a new fad till I saw the video compairing a bunch of mags and the only one to stand the abuse and still function were the pmags. I wasnt sure how many to order, someone said to have 7 per rifle 1 in the rifle 6 in pockets or rig. I saw a deal on 10 pmags for 12.99 a mag so I ordered a box of 10 mags. They arrived yesterday and all in all im pleased they are great opperate well over all im pleased with the purchase thus far.(Time may prove me wrong but we shall see)

Except one thing.. They rattle like crazy. Am I the only one to have this problem? they just seem to make alot of noise. I picked up an aluminum 30rd gi mag with magpul follower and a rangerplate at a gun show when I got the lower for my ar. The aluminum mag does not rattle. So whats the deal?

Are you talking about rattling when you shake the mag by itself or rattling in the gun? I have about 25 USGI's and 7 pmags.  The Pmags are tighter fitting therefore rattle less in my gun.

First let me say welcome!

Second, you fail for not posting a pic of your new build.

As to your problem with rattling, I'm not really sure since I never noticed rattling with my mags.

As to the problem with buying stuff do to the wife allowing funding for my hobby. I got rid of the wife long ago, so I don't have people telling me what I can and can't spend my money on.

I really didnt think PMAGs where all about the hype I just didnt think they where better then USGI mags but I was wrong.. I picked one up a few days ago and then i watched the video, well videos. there are a few of them out there.. but yeah even the feel of the Pmag in my hand is just much better then USGI mags.. I really am not a mag whore, I know people with 30+ mags.. even 60+ mags, that is crazy.. well I guess it if you have 3 or 4 AR's its not to bad.. but yeah PMAGs are awesome and that is all I will be buying.. I will pick up a few more.. I only use them for range use so I really only need one but still you know how it goes..

I have been lurking around for a long time, just learning. It seems most everything important has already been said so I didnt see much point in adding to the mix. So my appologies on not saying something sooner.

My most humble appologies on not posting pix of my build as well.

Those are from the day that I did most of the assembly, I was still waiting on the rear sight. And waiting on money to order the pmags.

So anywho it was quite the experience building. I got the lower from a dealer at a gunshow, it was several countys over and the dealer was from a town that requires a wait for long guns. I made the purchase filled out paperwork, they made there phone calls. Then tried to tell me I had to wait. I said no its serialed and documented as a rifle lower not a pistol, and there is no wait period for long guns here. After about 10 minutes of verbal sparing they gave it to me. So then I set about ordering the rest of the parts a piece at a time. I also got a great deal on the barrel, I had ordered a stainless barrel heavy profile 16" but the manufacturer I ordered the barrel from offered me a free upgrade to fluted as he didnt have what he showed to be instock. So that was nice.

Anywho the weapon is as follows

dpms lower reciever
dpms lower parts kit
JP trigger and hammer springs
Magpul Mag015 Enhanced Trigger Guard
CAA UPG16 Grip
CAA CBS Car type Buttstock
dpms upper a3 flattop upper reciever
dpms bolt carrier group
LMT Cut 16" 1/9 twist fluted heavy barrel from Wilson
Yankee Hill Machine free float light weight carbine length fore arm
Yankee Hill Machine Phantom 5C2 Compensator Flash Suppressor
Yankee Hill Machine BUIS a2 flip style(not pictured above)

As for the mags, I loaded several mags they all rattle if you shake them, my gi mag does not.

O and I was function checking the last of the mags, and one of them does not function properly, it jams the ammo sideways everytime. or does not grab the last round. Should I contact the folks I got the mags from to tell them about this one mag, or should I contact magpul? Its only one mag out of the 10. Also I noticed it appears that the problem is related to a piece of extra plastic on the rear corner of the feedlips.

Anywho thanks for the welcome.

Regarding the feed issue on your 1 pmag, contact the manufacturer.  They seem to have a very good reputation everywhere I've read, and are always more than happy to exchange your product if it's not functioning properly.

In regards to pmags in general...I just bought my first AR-15 earlier today, a CMMG 16" M4 Carbine...and grabbed the last two standard Pmags the shop had in stock($19 a piece, which isn't too bad considering I didn't have to wait on shipping).  Gotta wait on the ammo I wanted, but I already love the pmags over the gray USGI mag that came with my rifle.  The pmags handle great, snug fit in the mag well, looks to be manufactured pretty darn well.  A HUGE jump from a USGI, and you just can't beat how awesome the pmag looks when inserted...like it was meant to be there. I'm definitely going to be buying many more, and that's saying a lot considering I haven't even had the chance to load the ones I have.  If I have any trouble with them once I'm able to actually use them, I am confident that MagPul will stand behind their products.
