Are you talkin about Magpuls PMag?

I can't see cutting it out very helpful, I mean then you have a big hole in the side of your mag.

I couldn't think a better example to demonstrate what not to do!
As far as the advice provided so far, they're your mags, do what you want. Let us know how they function after a couple of trips to the range. I'd be interested to see how much crap from inside your range bag finds it's way into the cutouts.

Just cover the hole with a piece of clear tape!  Replace as necessary.

As long as you don't run them in a Bushmaster, you should avoid flak from most of the posters here.

going in a DPMS.  i want  get some new mags.  The metal ones i have make to much noise when carrying around.  Plastic is better   just as long as it's not made by Eagle

Hey, they're your mags, so do whatever you want.

Just don't get pissed off when crap (dust, lint, etc.) starts collecting inside them and screwing up their function

not sure that would be an issue they were dropped in the mud and shoveled sand with them... if you are going to do it post pics... and I would consider breaking down the mags to clean out any crap that the hole does aquire...  oh and I wouldnt try the chevy test after you cut in to it...

Every handgun I own has witness holes in their magazines and I have no problems with getting dirt in them in my range bag.
And it's not like PMags aren't the easiest magazines ever to take apart.
Get a freaking life guys

I think its a possible job. Cut out the spot on the pmag where magpul cut out the windows and add your own clear plastic. Whats so hard about that?

and.............that pistol mag is fully encased by the pistol grip of the handgun, so foreign debris wont get in as easily as an exposed carbine/rifle mag. Make sense?

If you think people on here dont have a life then why are you posting?

BTW i have 4 kids, a wife, and 2 jobs. I have a life. People enjoy this forum. Get used to it.

yes its encased by the pistol when you use it but not when they are in the range bag which is where someone said it would pick up debris.

its a mag not like your cuttin up a lower receiver try one use it for a month or so and see if there are any issues if you screwed it up your out 1 mag and you know the 3 dollars is worth it for future reference.

i had a similar thought, but instead of cutting the whole piece out why not just put like 1/8 inch holes in the side. i don't think you'd loose to much structural integrity and would be less of a gaping hole. still don't think its something i'd put in the field though. i guess the trick would be finding out where to cut the holes........

not sure 1/8" holes would help much the way the sring is marked if the orange line wasnt at one of the holes it wouldnt tell you much unless you could still see bullet cases? you could tell if you had a certain range of rounds (<10, 10-15, 15-20) I guess depending on hole placement.
