| My rifles seem to like Colt mags, DH, and pmags. I am sure many others work well, but I don't buy every brand. These are my personal favs out of the bunch. I think that Colt mags are made by OK, so either way is ok, which ever one is cheaper I would go with. The green followers are anti tilt or something. Just to be honest I haven't had any problems with the other followers as long as it is a quality mag. So I would not pay a lot more for those followers if it were me. |

Thanks for the reply. Sarco is advertisingg G.I. M16 Aluminum 30 rd. new, original mags for $10.95 ea. or 10 for $99.95. I called and was told they were manufactured by D&H out of Wisconsin I think. Any comments? They have the green followers. They also had Orlite 30 rounders in very good condition for 3 for $24.00. James |
| I have to agree, stay away from Orlite mags. The GI mags should be just fine. I forgot to mention C-products I have some of these mags and they work really well for me. Check out 44mag.com they sell cproducts mags at a good price. They have a link at the top of the page. |
Check this out This explains the original green anti-tilt followers. You usually can't go wrong with many of the USGI mags (Labelle(D&H), Okay (Colt)/NMTTG, etc...). Cproducts mags are good to go as well. My personal preference has always been the Okay (Colt) mags. |
The color is irrelevant, of course. When the design of the followers was changed, the design changes all are not visible when the follower is installed in the magazine. The green follower allows you to know that a new-style follower is installed without disassembling the magazine. |

The green follower seems to be the standard these days. They work well, but the followers made by Magpul are the best I've ever seen. They will never tilt. As far as brands of mags, I agree with the previous poster that Orlite is junk. PMags seem to be the newest thing, and I do have four of them, but mostly for "variety". They are really good mags though. The truth is that the old standard alloy metal 30 rounders are just fine - depending upon who makes them. If you're just looking to build up a stock of a dozen or so mags, I'd suggest checking out 44MAG. They are an advestiser on this site and you can find a link to them at the top of this page. They have a good deal on CProduct mags - their stock # CP30, for as little as $9.99 per mag, and those have the Magpul gray followers as well. Plus, if you place an order of $100 or more with 44MAG, the shipping is free. And no, I don't work for 44MAG, I just like the way they do business. Welcome to the wonderful (and often expensive) world of AR ownership. |
