| What is the ranking of mags at this time, Best quality and preformance. |
| I agree with the USGI completely, but this all depends on what capacity you are looking for. I had a guy in Virgina trade me 5 twenty round mags for my one 5 rd. Bushmaster. All this aside I got lucky and got a big stack of USGI 30rd mags from an ex-marine. FREE. It was a happy day. |

aluminum 30rd, dry film, green follower USGI (Okay, NGMTG, Center, Labelle) D&H C-Products HK high reliability mags are WAY overpriced (like all things HK) you can have 3 or 4 USGI mags with new springs and magpul gen II followers for the cost of ONE HK mag and get the same reliability... the Magpul PMAGS are pretty cool looking, i'd like a couple FDE or maybe some clear/smoke ones for a buddy of mines SL8->G36 conversion, but IMO they are a nice to have/emergency item. IIRC, originally they came with waterproof dustcovers, which would be awesome for long term storage in a truck, buried in your bunker, etc .we'll have to see how the polymer feedlips hold up over time for me to ONLY own PMAGs. |

In my experiance having owned several hundred mags, all of which have been test fired in at least 10 different rifles and carbines over the last 15years. #1 H&K #2 USGI Straight 20's with alloy follower #3 Preban black teflon Labelle 30's (Sorry D&H, but LaBelle had better QC back then than DH has now) #4 Current production Okay & NHTMG. #5 DSG (Which is simply a D&H Teflon mag with magpul Gen II follower) #5 DH new production teflon mags w/ green followers. #6 Brownells USGI 30's #7 Cproducts Marlube with magpul follower The above ratings are based on initial fit (drop free) and feed reliability when loaded with 28rns for "30" round mags or 20rnds for 20rnd mags. I have zero experiance with curved 20's as they are ugly and hard to find good mag pouches for. I have tried and rejected Brownells new straight 20's (mag well fit and finish issues)and CProducts 30rnd stainless (magwell fit and feeed reliability issues). Thermolds (magwell fit issues), Orlites (slap the bottum of the mag and 28 rounds spits out from between the feedlips), Ramline (complete trash), USA (trash). I havent shot the new PMAGs enough to form an opinion. I have 6 from two different production runs waiting for me at my hunting property and hope to test them soon in a 14.5" M4 and 20" M16A4 Clone. If i were buying new mags today i would order D&H Teflons from a company with a good return policy like 44mag.com, Brownells USGI Mags or Cproducts marlube and simply keep the good ones and sentd back any that dont drop free or feed reliably. With those three companies you can be sure you will have any issues resolved to your satisfaction. |
I'm loving them. I cannot say enough good about them. |

(Edit-- in no particular order) Current good USGI mags: OKay (also makes Colt and NHMTG) D&H Center C Products With good springs and green followers all of these will function well. Also, somewhat older, if springs are good and updated with green followers. D.L.Sanchez Parsons and Adventure Line (now Center) General Stamping and Labelle, as well as Bushmaster/BFI and DPMS (now D&H) Factors that contribute to reliability (1) Mag body condition... no bent or spread feedlips, no cracks at the corners, no dents or other damage. Also check the floorplate tabs... all present? A well fitted floorplate is important. (2) GOOD SPRINGS. Weak springs can cause nose dives, that is, in the last few rounds coming up nose low, striking the front of the mag body and not feeding. Also can cause a two rounds to pop loose, rather than one being fed smoothly. Wolff or other stronger aftermarket spring is the cheapest route to a reliable magazine and should be the first thing you do. With good springs even the old black followers will function well. (3) Followers. I am satisfied with the performance of green followers, but Magpull followers are also well designed and do what they are supposed to do, feed the ammo smoothly, coming up straight, not tilted. The antitilt follower designs can partly compensate for weak or marginal springs. I put followers next in importance after good, reliable springs. |
