I have never used mag pulls and was wondering if the difference between a nato spec mag pul and the ranger plate also form mag pul. I will be using these mags in an internal mag chest harness with bungie retention. which one would be best for my set up? www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_95_99&products_id=196&zenid=f41c10dc8c18cb79bed4ead4500006ef www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=80_96&products_id=199 |
| The answer depends on what the user prefers. I choose the Ranger Plate over the Magpul for one reason. The Ranger does not add to the overall thickness of the mag as the Magpul slides over the mag body adding girth. The Ranger is more streamline. Buy both and see what you like the best. |
As with anything from MagPul, it's very rugged. |

The ranger plates don't widen your magazines but the loop can only be accessed from the side. The original magpuls make the mags fatter but you can fit them with the loop accessed from the side or from the front/rear. If you're not sure then buy a couple of originals to play with. If you like side access or the extra bulk is a problem for your gear then get rangers. If you prefer front access and the extra bulk's okay then get originals. |

I have both and it's a 50/50 proposition that boils down to personal preference, so you might want to try both. I find the magpuls easier to grab (from the front) with my finger. They also "fold" out of the way if you need them to. Some mag pouch covers won't close with the ranger plates (mag with the plate is to long). Less problem with the magpul since they are flexible. The ranger plates have a more natural fit but can only be grabbed from the side (vs the front). As I said, personal preference and I still haven't decided which I like the best. Good luck. |
