With my Mag problem for my Colt AR-15 7.62x39, I was able to obtain from a member two Frankenmags.  I received them very fast and they were in great condition.  I field stripped them and did my normal Mag treatment program.

I only loaded one Frankenmag with 20 round without any problems.  They cycled out of the Mag with no problems.  However, I found a shocking problem that made me respect the problems that C Products is going through for us.

As I have a DPMS lower, I never thought that I would have the problem that I experienced.  I found that I could NOT lock in the Frankenmag with the bolt closed.  With the bolt assembly back, I could lock the Frankenmag in place, but then again the bolt assembly would not close, as it should.

Now before you try and flame the guy that sold me these Frankenmags, please keep in mind that they did work in his AR-15.  With all the clone AR-15s out there, one must have some respect for anyone that puts the effort and money on the line to make a top quality Mag for us that works in all the AR-15/M16s out there.

I at some point will place these two Frankenmags up for sale, but I learned a valuable lesson and now respect the efforts of Larry, Barry, and their staff in their efforts even more to supply our needs for a “Combat” reliable AR 7.62x39 Mags.

FYI:

If you plan on obtaining a used Frankenmag, first make sure that your lower will work with it.  I found out from C Products that my DPMS lower will not work with the Frankenmags.  It is reported that there are several other company lowers that will not work as well.

I hope that this information will help save you money and frustrations in your search for a working AR 7.62x39 Mag.  My money is still on C Products and I’ll just have to wait a little longer.
