How important is finish on a magazine?

What matters probably is how important it is to you.

It's not important at all.  I laugh at these nuts who refinish their mags!

How many freakin' times is this going to be asked?
I hope this guy is kidding because he is definitely not a newbie.
We need a tacked thread on this issue.

I could care less what the mags I use look like, so long as they don't have cracked feed lips or reliability issues.

Most of my current mags that I have in use are old Okay prebans that barely have any finish left. They do have upgraded springs and followers though. They work 100%. But the mags have more anodizing visible than gray finish. But being they are aluminum, its not like it matters. I mean they aren't gonna rust or something and there's still enough moly dry film on them to keep them lubricated well enough.

IMHO, the only people who care about what their mag's finish looks like are those who want their gun to look immaculate and simply cannot tolerate a raggedy ass mag in their rifle. This I can understand as well. I keep a pretty new mag loaded into one of my AR's for display purposes. But my mag pouches are filled with mags that look like they have pulled duty in Vietnam, then Gulf War 1, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan and then Iraq!

I dont know how imprtant it is as long as the magazine functions. I prefer Teflon finish myslef  since there is basically no cost difference. I had a bunch of prebans ( Teflon Labelles ) and sold them for $50 a pop about a year before the AWB sunset. Something to think about.

It's not important to me either but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything from having mags with no finish on them.

no you will be fine, dry film mags are still protected even when the finish wears off.

I don't see anything wrong with refinishing mags if your going to do it the right way with the right materials.  When some of my mags get really bad I do spray a coat of dry film moly on them which isn't really paint but a lubericant.
