I was wondering what is the purpose or why do alot of AR15 users tape the bottom of their mags? Is this  extra insurance-in case of a baseplate blowing off?

some use duct tape around the bottom to hold para cord.  basically make shift magpuls.

Also so they won't rattle in a pouch.

Or to ID and number their mags. Finding which ones are yours after a drill, etc. can be a challenge...
