Hi,

I've gone through the FAQ and other threads regarding AR-15 Mags, but I still have a question.

I have a number of 20 ROUND mags that I'd like to date.  They have the slanted bottom and straight ridges as well as the cast metal follower.  They are all marked:

(Pony)  CAL. 5.56mm
COLT'S FIREARMS DIVISION
COLT INDUSTRIES
HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.

Can anyone provide their pedigree??

Thanks!!

I had read that, but these don't have the "UI" mark anywhere that I can see.

Ed,

Is this what you're referring to:

"[2-1-2-3] Colt Commercial 5.56mm
--------- Colt sold mags made for the commercial market with standard USGI mag bodies and black plastic followers. Generally, the black plastic followers are considered less reliable than the Mil-Spec alloy followers. Made from 1980-1989. Floorplates stamped:

(Pony) CAL. 5.56 MM
COLT'S FIREARMS DIVISION
COLT INDUSTRIES
HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A."

As I said in my first post, all of my mags with these markings have the alloy follower, not the black plastic ones.  I'm wondering if early commercial mags used the alloy follower or is it some "limited production run" for some other market??

Thanks!!
