| Hey all,I've read all the facts about a loaded mag doesn't take a set or that it has no illeffects but what i want to know is,How long does that apply? What i mean is,if you have 3 mags that are absolutely 100% surefeed and you load them up for a shtf situation how long can you keep them loaded and count on them to be 100% reliable? without any doubts.I looked over other posts but didn't find an answer. |

While cleaning out my grandfather's house after his death, I found a loaded M1 Carbine mag in one of his tool boxes. Ammo was USGI, headstamped 1945, but it had prolly been there since 1965 or so, which was when he bought his Carbine. Took it out, shot it up - fed and functioned perfectly. |
actually that's not completely true, all mags take a set and stainless steel springs will take a set and continue to do so until they finally fail after alot of use. Chrome silicone springs take a set and thats it they will only take that one set. Like others have said load your mags without fear, it's loading and unloading that wears a mag out. |
