I am about to upgrade some of my older mags with MagPul followers.

The grey seems more popular, or at least what most mags come with.

Any opinions on which one is prefered?

I know function will be the same. I just wanted to know why someone might pick
one color over another. (Grey or Orange)

Thanks.

Grey for "camoflage".  Orange to easily spot mags dropped on the ground/at the range and to notice that the mag is empty.  All of mine a gray (or coyote brown).  I'd buy some red orange, but not the current traffic cone orange.

Traffic cone orange? They are now the new red orange. You really are getting very picky! You abuse our stainless magazines and now make fun of our colors!

it makes no difference to me I have mostly tan and gray with about 3-4 orange.  If I'm buying the followers seperate I just order them and let the dealer give me what he wants to.

Tell it son, tell it!  When MagPul first displayed the new Gen2 followers the internet pictures had the color in RED ORANGE but in reality the true color is indeed a shitty traffic cone orange.    What can ya do?  Can't really say much, they clearly refer to it as "safety orange" not "bitchin' hot red orange like our picture would have you believe"

in the end, it just holds the bullets, big deal, cry me a river, etc.
still.  that's some bullshit color swapping.

They should be black like the original followers cause the bad guys will think you have standard followers and be expecting them to jam,......then you kill them in a hail of Magpul assisted firepower.

We started off with the red orange which was a "day-glo" brand power that we mixed in to a netural base when molding. The problem was the power got everywhere and was a problem cleaning out the machine.

We then went to a stock orange which was a truer saftey orange.

Now the color people have come up with a custom color that is closer to red/orange we had at first. I think it has started to be phased into the production.

:: smiles and nods ::  Most interesting.  I've grown rather fond of the traffic cone orange now.  I figured if I wanted them RED or something a can of spray paint can always fix that.   (that was a joke)

So... mr MagPul when might a CTR stock be available in commercial tube size?

We have about 50 Commerical tube preproduction CTRs at the warehouse you will have to call up to get them though.

I guess I'm the odd duck but I just love the bright orange followers.  My original thought since I have went almost exclusivley with CP mags would be to keep orange in all my alum. mags since the SS mags come with grey. It will require no looking for the mags I want to grab in a hurry.

I'm just a weird bird.  I've had to trash a couple of older USGI mags lately, but the stainless mags just keep on going!  I sent my brother to you, he should be getting some SS mags pretty soon.

Great to hear about the orange as I have about twenty mags that need Magpul followers and the pre-production CTR I've got to get.

First of all, the MagPul followers I have function perfectly.  They are a great product.  Having said that, I'd rather not have orange followers.  All mine are gray.  My reasoning is orange is not good camo.

"Orange not a good camo".......HOLY CRAP......If someone or something that you are engaging or shooting at is close enough to see the color of your follower, then the color should be the least of your concerns!
Go with what ever makes you happy. You want a subdued color...go with grey, you want a quick visual confirmation that mag is empty...go with red/orange.

FWIW, I prefer the orange followers on my AL magazines with the MPs.  It makes them easier to distinguish them from the CP SS magazines at a glance.  But it really comes down to personal preference.

I want mine in the ACU pattern since it is perfect camoflage.

I like mine as obnoxiously bright as possible so I can see if it's empty, or I have a malfunction. This could actually become a factor in low light.

I just grabbed a handful of each and threw them in a bag .
When I shoot one of my preloaded mags empty , I reach in
in the bag and that's the color it gets

My comment was a little bit of a joke, note the happy face thingy.  The next bunch of mags I buy will have orange followers.  Most of these will be stored loaded.  I'll use the followers to let me know at a glance if the mag has a SS or CS spring in it.

I like the orange color best because it's easy to see that the magazine is empty with just a glance into the receiver.

So where and when can I get some of the red followers?

Red-red or Red orange?  Pure red ones are for 6.8 or 6.5, one's blue and the other is red.  I guess you can get red orange ones from C Products (?)...  Maybe direct frm Magpul...

You could always go with a marbled/multicolor swirl just to mess with everyone.
Glow in the dark plastic?  Pastel pink?

Red orange like the Ranger plate locking tab.  I have some with the red tab and I'd like to get the followers to match.

actually they did come out with a glow in the dark follower, it just wasn't highly publisized and there wasn't a whole lot of them made

I prefer the green USGI followers.  I like green - that's why.  Why can't Magpuls be green too?

Green's right purty, oranges is for eatin, and gray's just plain ol' drab.

Seriously, I understand that the gray (from what I've read on here - may be total BS) was selected because they are requested by the military units who use Magpul followers.  Of course, the "real" users who depend on this stuff get first pick.  Just be proud they care about us and still make them in ANYTHING but gray.

ETA: I DO have 6 new gray Magpuls (my first non-black or non-green followers) that came in my latest mags purchase.  I'm gonna give them a go on my next outing and see if I like them.  I suspect they'll push rounds up flawlessly just like my green USGI ones do.  If so, hooray!  If not, they'll be on the EE in about two weeks.

Simple:  They are different colors to make them easy to distinguish at a glance.

+1

I switched to the orange anti-tilts when they came out and am now almost through switching to the orange Magpuls (skipped the 1st-gen Magpuls altogether ).

My all time favorite has and always will be the "original" coyote brown.

Grey and orange just aren't as interesting to me haha, but I still have those as well.
