I've got new green followers in all my magazines as well as Wolff extra power springs.

Functioning has been 100% untill my last shoot when I pulled back my charging handle and let fly and it jammed on me.  Failure to feed the first round of a 28 round mag.

Would the MagPul follower design have prevented it??

Do they really do a better job of not allowing any down tilt when feeding??

Functioning the rest of the day was 100%, yet that first jam bothered me.

I searched by magpull and found nothing for last 30 days.

Do you have anyother input to offer regarding the original question or you just gonna bust my balls?

I have used "normal" usgi followers since I have been shooting AR's.  I have never had a magazine related malfunction using these followers.  The mag-pul follower does offer something that the green one is lacking.  It has a total anti-tilt design.

The black follower was changed to the green one because of issues with mags on full auto..  The green ones seem to working fine for the military right now.

It is simple.  Buy these if you want, I havent yet, but I dont consider them a novelty.  They are high quality feature to add to a USGI mag.

Look in the magazine forum. You will find a couple of recent threads on why the MagPul followes are in use by many here.

I can't get the Lula to work properly with the USGI 20rd alloy, plastic, or USGI 30rd followers. It tilts so much to the point that the Lula can't lock into the next position.

The Magpul followers give your AR15 mags the same type of follower action/motion/stability as AK 30rd mags. Needless to say if you have never used an AK mag, then I'll explain it: the follower cannot tilt. It can only go in 2 directions, up or down.

We just started having some of our mags assembled with the MAGPUL followers at the factory... They are not going to help a mag that already works 100% for its owner, but for the future, the design is just better IMO. Absolutely anti-tilt.

The Teflon coating of the follower against a Teflon mag body give a self lubricating quality too (that doesn't wear off in the short term).

With all due respect, as I don't know you from Adam, I find this statement from you and a hundred other people very hard to believe.  I've got upwards to 50 mags right now, in varying stages of use and I have my fair share of mag related failures.  All of them are USGI and had green followers.  Drop a partially loaded mag on the deck and it is just as likely to tilt and lock as it is not to, especially as it ages.  Springs go bad over use.  I guess what I am saying is if you see a decent amount of use from a decent amount of USGI mags with green followers, you will see mag related failures.  It is a simple fact of magazine life.

Now I don't see any mag related failures from the mags that I put the Magpul followers in, very likely because they have new Wolff springs in them also.  Anytime I find a mag that shows FTF issues, the spring and follower are replaced with a Wolff spring and Magpul follower.  I cannot comment on the longevity of the setup, but I can say that the Magpul followers are one of the few followers out there that are truly anti-tilt.

As always, YMMV.

What I meant to say was "a malfunction related to these followers"

Sure I have had malfunctions but I can count them on my hand.  One being a range mag I use that has a weak spring and fails to hold bolt open and sometimes doesnt feed a round.  Othan than that I really cant recall any instances where I could blame something on the follower.  Other instances of malfunction I have encoutered were stuck and ruptered cases, gas key loose where the AR turns to a bolt gun.  I suppose I dont shoot as often as would needed to really matter,  I would hardly call a bench at the local range "testing ground", but this is just from my experience.

ETA- I will be buying some magpul followers, but I just havent got around to it.

I bought 10 of DSG Arms magazines with the Magpul followers and the Magpul Ranger Plates.  Absolutely not tilt and top notch.  Plus mine came in a pretty black color rather than plain jane
gray.

P.S. Plus shipping was phenomenally fast.
